Students see shocking show Electrical Safety On Nov. 13 Brussels Grades 1-8 all went to see the electricity show in the gym put on by the PUC in Brussels. Everybody really liked when Bill, the presenter made a pickle light up in the dark. He thought he would use a pickle because a pickle has skin over it and it has juice in the middle pretty much like people. In Grade 4, they are making Christmas posters for the Brussels Santa Claus Parade. The kids in Grade 4 are working on some stories for Remembrance Day and in their math this week they were learning about estimating. In Grade 6/7 this week they made monster booklets for French, then presented them to a camera. The Grade 6s in Mrs. Whyte's class made a project for Canadian Studies. The report cards were set back two weeks and will be handed out on Dec. 9. Interviews will be held on Dec. 12. The book fair and the wares fair are on Nov. 27. The Christmas concert is on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Student council is going to have a food stand next week, having corn nuts, golden graham treats, rice krispies, and fruit snacks. Prices are 50 cents for one. In the Grade 7/8 students are making a project for their independent writing assignment. In French they just finished video taping their monster booklets. Blyth Public School students watched with amazement as Bill Cloakey demonstrated with a hotdog what it would be like if a person received an electric shock. Cloakey spent 35 years on the Oakville PUC. Now retired, he spends his days going across Ontario doing presentations at public schools about electrical safety. He shows them how to stay safe in the home and outside. East Wawanosh PS news CHARLOTTE’S WEB By Leanne Mullin and Camerra Yuill Gr. 4/5 Room 9 On Oct. 22, Grades 4/5 and 2 and kindergarten A classes from East Wawanosh Public School went to the Blyth Memorial Hall to see Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. On Oct. 23, kindergarten B, Grade 1 and Grade 3/4 had their turn. In the story, a spider named Charlotte A. Cavatica wins a beautiful friendship with a pig named Wilbur. The pig was raised like a baby on a bottle by a little eight-year-old girl named Fern Arable. Wilbur grew quite rapidly, and started to eat slop instead of milk. When he was five weeks old and no longer an infant, Fem was told that she would have to sell her pig, so she sold Wilbur to her Aunt Edith Zuckerman for $6. Edith look the offer and bought the pig. The day of the fair was soon arriving and Wilbur was so excited that he would win the blue ribbon. Edith was trembling because she was sure Wilbur would win and she would get lots of prize money. In the end Charlotte makes an egg sac and then she dies. Wilbur decides to take the egg sac home to the bam. He then makes a promise to Templeton, the rat, that he would get to eat first if he got the egg sac for him. Templeton agreed to get it for him so he would get to eat first. Next spring the baby spiders hatch and all of them but three stand on their heads, shoot out thread to form a balloon and fly away. It is a very good story and anyone who sees it is sure to want to read the book. Andrew Procter says his favorite parts are when the first words appear in the web and when Wilbur escapes from his pen. "I like these parts because the people think the words in the web are a miracle but it's not. It's funny when Wilbur escapes from his pen." Jeremy Vanderhaar says his favorite part is when Wilbur escapes from his pen, because it is funny when everyone is chasing him. "It is awesome." Kyle Procter says his favorite part is when Charlotte spins the web, because it is cool how it looks. "Can I go again?" CROSS COUNTRY By Emily Elston On Oct. 7, some of the East Wawanosh PS students participated in the Huron cross-country meet at the Wingham Golf Course. Results were excellent! The students showed a lot of school spirit! FRENCH UPDATE By Kris Hopper Grade 1 is learning about the puppet, Dimoitout. They are not sure if it is male or female. Some kids think it is an octopus because of its long arms. Grade 2 is learning how to talk in French about their family and are learning how to count up to 15. They have also just met Tik and Tuk. Grade 3 is learning about Berlingo, the clown and they are lean mg how to count to 25.
