John Van Beers Former Crusaders sign with new teams The 1997-98 WOAA Senior Hockey program is underway and while the BMG arena is without Crusader hockey, many of the Crusaders are not. Rick Boon, Brent Vandenakker, Kalen Carroll and Pat Cronin have signed with Clinton while Corey McKee and Tom McDonald are playing in Lucknow. As well, Steve Fritz and Ron Strome are the newest members of the Milverton 4-Wheel Drives, who also have hopes of signing Tim Fritz and Brian Campbell. The Biggest early season surprise has been the success of the "lower class" teams against the AA clubs. While the dividing of the league by geographic alignment was readily accepted, the difference in calibre was a concern at the scheduling meeting. However with the absence of teams in Grand Valley, Drayton, Brussels and Teeswater many clubs have strengthened themselves via free agent signings. A perfect example are the defending B champions from Lucknow. The Lancers are currently in third place behind Tavistock and Milverton, but ahead of the defending A champions from Goderich and the AA finalist Wellesley Merchants. Lucknow was active in the free agent market signing the ex Crusaders and the best of the ex- Teeswater Falcons.
