On Oct. 20 the Walton 4-H met
again for the third meeting of "Milk
Makes It Better."
The meeting began with the 4-H
pledge and the reading of the
minutes from the last meeting.
They went on to making Lemon
Raspberry Cheesecakes and Cheese
Souffle.
The business part of the meeting
was discussed. They talked about
how much money they need to pay,
when will achievement be, what
time it will be at and so on. Some
of the suggestions for the
achievement were: going to a
cheese factory, making a meal for
parents and a pizza contest. None
of the ideas were chosen at this
meeting so members could think it
over and see what would be best.
They did decide that the
achievement will be held on Nov.
17.
After the discussion they taste
tested the recipes made and decided
that the cheesecakes that were
made in the oven were best and the
ones from the microwave were sort
of mushy and not spongy like the
other ones.
The cheese souffles were good
also.
The meeting was adjourned.
The fourth meeting was held on
Oct. 27 at the home of Darlene
Vanderveen's. The meeting began
with the pledge and continued with
the making of vegetable dip, one of
three recipes for this meeting.
"What’s one food, made of milk,
that you eat once a week?" was the
roll call leading into the topic for
the meeting.
The achievement was the pext
discussion. Members decided that
they will partner up, make one
vegetable pizza and ice cream pizza
together, that will be judged by at
least three people who have not yet
been selected.
They then tasted cottage cheese,
butter milk and sour cream. These
were all in at least one of the
recipes. Butter and whipped
shortbread was what they made
next. The butter they made was
used to make the shortbread which
isn't a recipe in their books. A few
of them then made fruit smoothies
to go with the other recipes that
were made.
Taste testing followed and it was
decided that they were all really
good.
The meeting was closed with the
4-H motto.
Pat and John Gillis greeted
worshippers at Duffs United on
Nov. 2. Rev. James Murray greeted
everyone and opened the service
with the Call to Worship. The choir
sang, God of the Sparrow.
Rev. Murray announced that
there will be muffins and coffee
after the service next week and
everyone is welcome to enjoy the
food and fellowship. He also
reminded everyone about the
supper on Wednesday.
Rev. Murray called the young
worshippers forward and asked
how many had ever moved. Quite a
few hands went up. He said he had
moved 11 times. He then proceeded
to tell them about Ruth and how
there are only two books in the
Bible named after women and she
was one of them- He told them how
she moved to a foreign land and
how God is always with them no
matter where they move.
His sermon was called, "The
Devotion of a Ruth." He told a little
more about the story of Ruth and
how stories in the Bible always had
underlying religious messages. In
the Ruth story the question is, "Just
who can be one of God's people?"
When the exiled people came
back to their land, to rebuild the
temple, they found the book of
laws, then a lot of confusion took
place. They were to divorce
foreigners and the foreigners
weren’t allowed in the temple etc.
"So who can be one of God's
people?" Rev. Murray asked. "Do
we pick and choose who can be in
our clubs? In our churches? Who
do we exclude from God's family?
Are we closing doors on people
like Ruth?"
"We are to remember that God is
with all of us no matter where we
come from and no matter who we
are. All are welcome into the
Family of God."

Congratulations to Alvin and
Vera McDonald who took first
prize at the euchre game at the
Walton Hall. Delores Howatt and
Marg Anderson took home second
prize and Bob and Dorothy Dalton
won third place. Lois and Ivan
Bennewies took the lone hand
prizes.
The hall board will be hosting
another beef dinner on Nov. 23.
Vai and Ken Pethick just got
back from Branson, MO where
they had a fabulous time. I asked if
they would go back and Vai
answered, yes and said they would
take the children.
They saw Bobby Vinton and
heard Shoji Tabuchi play his violin.
They went to the '76 music hall;
and heard the country and western
group called, 'Pierce Arrow'.
They got to take an 80-minute
tour in what is called, 'the Duck'. It
is an army amphibious machine
that holds about 20 - 25 people. So
they were in and out of water and
saw the beautiful countryside. Vai
said that she loved the Ozark
Mountains.
The Walton WI will be holding
its meeting on Nov. 26 at the
Walton Hall at 7:30 p.m. There will
be a demonstration on how to cook
for small numbers. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
The Walton UCW Fun Craft
night will be Nov. 12 at 8 p.m.
Ladies are asked to bring two
medium-weight facecloths in their
bathroom colours. If anyone has a
few everyday cards they are to
bring them as well. There will be
washcloths available for purchase
as well.
Encourage physical activity for
all people. Becoming more active
tends to have a positive effect on
body image. Non-competitive
activity programs lead to improve
ments in self-esteem for teenage
girls. Try to make it easy for young
people to be active. Do your school
grounds invite active play? Ask
kids to come up with some active
alternatives to playing video games
at home.
