Sheila Anderson, cousins Brandon and Jordyn of Guelph visited for a few days during the week with her parents Barbara and Ross Anderson. Congratulations from the community to Alison and Brian Wightman on the birth of their daughter Autumn Elleda. Curtis Knight stayed last weekend at Grand Bend with Justin, Jeremy and Linda Campbell. Over 50 Wightman relatives gathered at the WI Hall on Sunday, Nov. 2 for their Christmas dinner. They came from Barry, Bolton, Brampton, Tiverton, Lucknow, Fergus, Grand Valley, Toronto, Hanover, Guelph, Grimsby, Burlington and Belgrave. Rena Montgomery of Guelph stayed for a couple of days at Jean Wightman's. Greeters Ross and Wilma Higgins welcomed worshippers at Knox United Church on All Saints Sunday, Nov. 2. Laurie Procter, and Becky Logan were in charge of nursery. Prior to the singing of the hymns We are the Church and Teach Me God to Wonder for song time, Rev. Mary Jane Hobden welcomed everyone. Silent Meditation and Call to Worship read responsively from the bulletin, was followed by the Prayer of Approach and Prayer of Confession in unison. A choir of mixed voices sang Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Savior, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter at the piano. The Old Testament lesson was taken from Ruth 1: 1-18. This was followed by the singing of Children of the Heavenly Father. The children gathered in the front pews for children's time. The theme centred on Hallowe'en - Devil's Night and All Saints. Everyone is different, Rev. Hobden said. "We can show God we want to be a "Saint" because we are one of God's family and God's dream." The children adjourned downstairs for Sunday School. This was followed by Psalm 146 read responsively. The gospel lesson was taken from Mark 12: 28-34. The singing of Where Charity and Love Prevail was followed by the sermon "What is the Greatest Commandment?" Ken Procter and Don G. Procter took up the collection. The Offertory Song was All That I Am. Prayers of the People, The Lord's Prayer, the closing hymn O Love That Wilt Not Let Me go. Sending Forth, Commissioning and Three­ fold Amen. "Go Now in Peace" concluded the worship service. Joint Session meeting at Knox is Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. Sonshine Singers practise at 10 a.m. each Sunday. With Christmas fast approaching they are starting to practise carols. Sunday, Nov. 9 is Remembrance Sunday. Knox Beef Supper is on Wednesday, Nov. 12 with sittings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available from any Steward. Everyone is welcome. Knox Evening Unit is on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the home of Donna Shaw at 8 p.m. Roll call is a short verse for Remembrance Day. N. Moore wins at euchre Moms discuss strike Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Michelle Young and Cindy McKee attended as guests in discussion of the teachers' strike. Others who attended were: Rev. Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen; Kim Higgins, Laura, Ashley and Jarrod; Elaine Scott, Payton and Drew; Linda Hess, Andrew and Judith; Connie Shiell, Christopher, Andrea and Lindsay. Cranbrook 4-Hers cook By Julie Terpstra On Thursday, Oct. 23, the Cranbrook 4-H club held its first meeting. The leaders, Amy Cronin and Ang DeGroot, started the meeting with the 4-H pledge and got everyone involved with opening icebreakers. Everyone was given a product from the "Baker's Kit" and had to identify the product, its use, and say a bit about themselves. The club executive was elected and club name selected, "The Cookie Monster Club". Karen Terpstra is president, Stacey Bowles, is vice-president and Amanda VanLoo is secretary. Julie Terpstra is the youth leader. After elections, Ang did a demonstration on measuring techniques for liquid and dry ingredients, small measurements and fats. We also talked about the chemical reactions that occur to actually change the ingredients into a new structure while baking. After the business, we split into two groups and went head-to-head in a brownie making contest - oven verses microwave. Aaron Cook was the visiting goalscorer. Byron Broom put the team ahead by one more in second, followed shorly after by a Johnathon McDowell goal. Bean lit the light once more before Cook edged another between the pipes making the score 7-2. Then with five sec­ onds left, Bean tallied up a second hattrick with his sixth point to end the game.
