Mid-gets lose, win The Blyth Midgets traveled to Lucknow on Oct. 27 and suffered a 6-1 loss. Kyle Anderson scored for Blyth in the first period at the 9:34 mark. Blyth held Lucknow at bay until the last seven minutes of the period when Lucknow scored two leaving the score at 2-1. Lucknow continued to score four goals against Blyth in the third period. Blyth Atoms tie Bayfield The Blyth Atom hockey team played a good game when they hosted Bayfield on Oct. 30 Brett Bean assisted on the first goal against Bayfield which was scored by Ryan McClinchey with With the loss against Lucknow a memory, Blyth went on to face Drayton on Nov. 2 and played an amazing game winding 15-3. Goals scored for Blyth were made by Mike Haggitt with three, Jeff Cowan, Mike Courtney and Anderson with two, and Cory Campbell, Cory Bragg, Mike Ans­ ley, Stephen Oldfield, Craig Marks and Darryl Bromley with one. seven minutes left on the clock in the first period. By the end of the peri- Continued on page 12 It was tenacity such as this that gave the Brussels Bulls their most successful weekend of action with one win and two ties. This contest was in Brussels on Saturday against the Wiarton Wolves who managed to come back from behind to tie the tired Bulls. Bulls get win and two ties The first game of a three-game weekend started at home against Walkerton on Friday night for the Brussels Bulls. Walkerton scored first, but Josh Cressman on the power play at 13:48 tied the game assisted by Brad Mulvey and Darin Alviano. The Blackhawks once again took the lead until Gary Staples tied the game at 3:37 of the first assisted by Darryl DeRuyter and remained tied into the first intermission. Walkerton again took the lead and held it into the third period when Mark Durand tied the game at 13:51 of the third, assisted by Alviano and Cressman. Jamie Thomas started the game but left after the first period due to a recurring knee problem. He was replaced in net by Dan Balog who with some late game goaltending heroics kept the score tied until the buzzer went to end the game. Saturday night saw the Bulls travel to Hanover to take on the Barons. Hanover scored first at 15:56 but the Bulls fought back and tied the game at the 12-minute mark of the first when Alviano scored assisted by Curtis Nichol and Craig Morrissey, who would get four points against the Barons on this night. Brussels took the lead when Alviano got his second goal assisted by Steven Henderson and Morrissey. The Barons tied the score at 10:35 of the second, but at 3:07 Morrissey scored unassisted to put the Bulls in front for good. The Bulls played solid hockey and at 15:02 of the third Morrissey scored his second goal of the night short-handed on a feed from Dan Sinclair. With the Bulls very happy with their play so far this weekend the last game of the weekend had the Wiarton Wolves in town with a possibility of taking five of six points. The Bulls started out doing something they've only managed one other time this year and that was score first when Jarrett Jeffrey bulged the twine for his first of the year assisted by Brad Mulvey. Brussels went up 2 - 0 when Cressman scored on the power play assisted by Nichol and Sinclair. Wiarton scored twice to tie the score before the Bulls went ahead on a Morrisey goal, assisted by Alviano and Cressman. The Bulls went up 5 - 2 when Andy Agar scored short handed, 26 seconds later, assisted by Jeffrey and Sinclair, but could manage no more. Wiarton scored short handed with 37 seconds remaining in the second period to give the Bulls a two-goal lead into the second intermission. The three-game weekend started to take its toll in the third period when the Wolves scored at 19:25 and again at 6:18 to tie the game at five. The Bulls had their chances to go ahead in the third but couldn't bury the puck behind the Wiarton goalie. Next weekend the Bulls play two away games due to the Optimist Atom Tournament in town Nov. 7, 8, 9 going to Wiarton Saturday night for an 8:30 start and then travelling to Walkerton Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. start against the Blackhawks. The next home game for the Bulls will be on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. when the Kincardine Bulldogs are in town. BULLS' NOTES: Craig Morrissey, who signed with the Bulls last year is back for his second year and will add needed scoring punch to the Bulls. He is a 20-year-old centre from Kitchener and played with the Bulls affiliate Kitchener Dutchmen. He will be wearing number 13. Defenseman Brian Truax has decided to pursue other interests and will no longer be playing for the Bulls. He is wished all the best.
