It was tenacity such as this that gave the Brussels Bulls their most successful weekend of
action with one win and two ties. This contest was in Brussels on Saturday against the
Wiarton Wolves who managed to come back from behind to tie the tired Bulls.
Bulls get win and two ties
The first game of a three-game
weekend started at home against
Walkerton on Friday night for the
Brussels Bulls.
Walkerton scored first, but Josh
Cressman on the power play at
13:48 tied the game assisted by
Brad Mulvey and Darin Alviano.
The Blackhawks once again took
the lead until Gary Staples tied the
game at 3:37 of the first assisted by
Darryl DeRuyter and remained tied
into the first intermission.
Walkerton again took the lead
and held it into the third period
when Mark Durand tied the game
at 13:51 of the third, assisted by
Alviano and Cressman.
Jamie Thomas started the game
but left after the first period due to
a recurring knee problem. He was
replaced in net by Dan Balog who
with some late game goaltending
heroics kept the score tied until the
buzzer went to end the game.
Saturday night saw the Bulls
travel to Hanover to take on the
Barons. Hanover scored first at
15:56 but the Bulls fought back and
tied the game at the 12-minute
mark of the first when Alviano
scored assisted by Curtis Nichol
and Craig Morrissey, who would
get four points against the Barons
on this night.
Brussels took the lead when
Alviano got his second goal
assisted by Steven Henderson and
Morrissey. The Barons tied the
score at 10:35 of the second, but at
3:07 Morrissey scored unassisted to
put the Bulls in front for good.
The Bulls played solid hockey
and at 15:02 of the third Morrissey
scored his second goal of the night
short-handed on a feed from Dan
Sinclair.
With the Bulls very happy with
their play so far this weekend the
last game of the weekend had the
Wiarton Wolves in town with a
possibility of taking five of six
points. The Bulls started out doing
something they've only managed
one other time this year and that
was score first when Jarrett Jeffrey
bulged the twine for his first of the
year assisted by Brad Mulvey.
Brussels went up 2 - 0 when
Cressman scored on the power play
assisted by Nichol and Sinclair.
Wiarton scored twice to tie the
score before the Bulls went ahead
on a Morrisey goal, assisted by
Alviano and Cressman.
The Bulls went up 5 - 2 when
Andy Agar scored short handed, 26
seconds later, assisted by Jeffrey
and Sinclair, but could manage no
more.
Wiarton scored short handed
with 37 seconds remaining in the
second period to give the Bulls a
two-goal lead into the second
intermission.
The three-game weekend started
to take its toll in the third period
when the Wolves scored at 19:25
and again at 6:18 to tie the game at
five. The Bulls had their chances to
go ahead in the third but couldn't
bury the puck behind the Wiarton
goalie.
Overall it was a good weekend
