Area students among those honoured at Madill commencement Area students were among those receiving awards at F.E. Madill Secondary School's (FEMSS) com­ mencement on Oct. 10. Lori Ann Black, of Brussels, received the MacTavish Award for Merit, which is presented to a deserving graduating student fur­ thering their education at any post­ secondary institution. Black also received the Art Cur­ ry’s Art Store, Mississauga/Sny- der's Studio Wingham Award, and the honour of the Big M. Others from Brussels who received awards were Tamara Smith, who received the Jeanne Oldfield Memorial Arts Scholar- ship. This is presented to a student having high academic standings, who is a graduate of Brussels Pub­ lic School or resident of the town of Brussels who is furthering their education in art, English or music. Andrew Exel one of thr&e Frischknccht of East Wawnosh, received the West Wawanosh Insurance Award which recognizes graduating students, either in Grade 12 or OAC, who are furthering their education in agriculture or related fields. This is pre­ sented to the students who have excelled in every aspect of the Grade 12 program, in academics, leadership roles, in class achieve­ ment and in school sport. Amber Ruttan received the Stephanie Lea Henry Memorial Award, presented to a Grade 12 student who graduated from Brus­ sels Public School and has con­ tributed positively to the academic, social and extra-curricular life at Madill. Brett Fischer, as well as Rolf Stacy Hahn was presented with the FEMSS Teaching Staff Award which is given to graduating stu­ dents who have demonstrated high scholastic standing and good school citizenship. John Lowe received the Auxil­ iary to Wingham District Hosppital Award, presented to him for having sound academic background, hav­ ing volunteered throughout his high school career, and is entering train­ ing in a health related field. Jeff Elliott was one of three pre­ sented with the Student Council Award for "well-rounded" students who have given something of themselves back to the student body. These students best repre­ sent the quality of citizenship which exists within the school.
