Skate-a-thon
raised $2,300
Bulldoggin the Bull
The Brussels Bull is a little off his stride as a visiting Kincardine Bulldog charges in. The two
teams faced off on Friday night in Brussels and despite the best efforts of the home team,
the contest brought them another in the loss column.
Bulls still search for win
On Friday night the Kincardine
Bulldogs were in town with the
Bulls hoping to surprise the dogs
and get their first win of the season.
Kincardine scored twice in the
first before Dan Sinclair, assisted
by Brian Truax, made the rush and
tucked a nice goal over the
shoulder of the Kincardine goalie.
The Bulldogs scored five
unanswered goals in a penalty
filled second period.
Brussels scored their second goal
at 14:52 of the third period when
Brad Mulvey scored unassisted.
The Bulls held the Bulldogs at bay
until 37 seconds remaining in the
game when they scored on the
powerplay.
The game ended up with a total
of 267 minutes in penalties with
Kincardine receiving the majority
of the penalties with 157 minutes to
the Bulls 110 minutes.
The Bulls played only once this
past weekend and play only once
next weekend when the Hanover
Barons come to town for their first
meeting this year at 2 p.m. at the
BMG Community Centre.
The Bulls' record thus far is 0
wins, six losses and two ties. They
hope to take advantage of the
struggling Hanover Barons on
Sunday afternoon.
The olyth Arena was a busy spot
on Saturday, Oct. 18 with 79 eager
skaters taking part in the annual
Skate-a-thon.
This year the skaters raised
approximately $2,300 in pledges.
Generous donations from local
service clubs have also been
pouring in to be added to the total
figure which will be equally
divided between Blyth Minor
Hockey and the Blyth Figure/
Power Skating Clubs.
Top pledge winners in the seven
and under category this year were
Devin Jenkins with $151, Matt
Chalmers with $145 and Kelly
MacDonald with $85. In the eight
and over group, Dickey Gregg
topped the list with $218, Josh
Albrechtas with $97 and Trevor
Koehler with $81.
The winners were given gift
certificates from Wal-Mart in
appreciation for their hard work
and effort.
This year organizers were very
fortunate to be able to award every
skater there with prizes all
generously donated from various
groups and businesses. The skaters
also enjoyed juice, milk, treats and
home-baked goodies throughout
the day.
Once again the moonlight skate
with the older group was enjoyed
and Pat Cronin and Jane Bromley
did a great job trying to get the
group organized with the games.
The 1997 Skate-a-thon was a
success thanks to the skaters,
pledgers and the volunteer helpers
who did a wonderful job keeping
things organized and running
smoothly.
Bringing in the bucks
Top pledgers for Blyth’s skate-a-thon were, back row, from left: Josh Albrechtas, $97; Devin

Dancers

The Huron-Bruce Swingers met
on the evening of Oct. 8 in
Brookside school for their bring-a-
friend night. Four couples, from
Milverton’s Egbert’s Scramblers,
arrived to join in square, round and
line dances. After an enjoyable
evening, the Scramblers departed
having accomplished their mission
of stealing the Swingers’ banner.
Anyone interested in joining the
Swingers could contact Ross and
Elaine Enrington at 528-2037.
