With the introduction of the Sien
na minivan for 1998, Toyota has
started in a new direction for the
line.
By combining the standard fea
tures of a minivan with the style
and options available on sedans,
Toyota plans for the Sienna to
attract both the traditional minivan
customers as well as those accus

said the Sienna is built on a stretch
Camry platform, the "benchmark"
of the Toyota family.
The car company took the best
features of the two lines in design
ing the Sienna.
From the car came: perfor
mance, handling and braking;
sleek contours; improved body
rigidity and fuel economy and a
driver-oriented cockpit with sporty
gauges.
The contributions from the mini
van model were: high driving
position; convenience of various
passenger seating arrangements;
tough body structure with a variety
of safety features, available dual
sliding doors and increased interi
or size and cargo room.
The exterior of the minivan has
been designed to be attractive to
the eye, yet functional and eco
nomical.
The sporty styling is emphasized
by the aerodynamic shape and the
two-tone paint give the vehicle a
clean look.
While providing ample room for
transporting the hockey or ball
equipment, and unique options pos
sible in a minivan, the Sienna inte
rior offers comforts of the Camry.
The Sienna has: front captains
chairs, options second-row captains
chairs, rear removable reclining
split bench, seven-passenger seat
ing, front and rear room lamps,
dual airbags, four-spoke tilt steer
ing wheel, adjustable front shoulder
belt and AM/FM cassette stereo
along with many other items.
The stalwart Camry also lends
many mechanical features to the
Sienna, thereby maintaining quality
and reliability to which the Toyota
customer has become accustom.
While retaining the quality of the
Corolla, the 1998 model has boen
redesigned to improve the standard
equipment, performance and safety.
The aim of the re-engineering
was to create a sporty, yet "value
conscious" vehicle.
The company has concentrated
on four areas for improvement: a
younger, sportier look; class lead
ing standards to meet 1999 pro
posed regulations; improved
interior quietness and ride comfort
and as higher level of engine per
formance, handling and fuel econo-
