Blyth PS news Kdgns. get acquainted LET’S CHECK IN ON JK/SK! By Michelle Cook Our JK/SK students are becoming acquainted with each other through songs, games and play. This class has enjoyed learning and dramatizing nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty and Little Boy Blue. The colours that they have been learning are blue, red and yellow. The class was very excited about yellow because Mrs. Buffinga brought in some real live baby chicks! The colour stories that they have read were entitled The Little Red Hen, The Little Blue Engine that Could, and Clifford, The Big Red Dog. They also have been involved in songs, poems, games, crafts and centres which related to colours. The kindergarten students certainly have been very busy since school started in September. GRADE 2/3 IS THE PLACE TO BE! By John H. Battye Mrs. Diane Grail's class has had lots of fun studying The Animal's Walk story. Wow, those children always have something to do! They're learning more about mathematics such as addition, subtraction and patterns. It's like Skate-a-thon this weekend The Blyth and District Community Centre is holding a skate-a-thon on Oct. 18, sponsored by the Blyth Minor Hockey and Figure and Power Skating clubs. Anyone is welcome to participate with a pledge sheet. Pledge sheets available at the arena, or by calling 529-7067 or 523-4815. Registration takes place at 11:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Skating gets underway at noon until 4 p.m. Children under seven skate until 2 p.m. The club is continuing the moonlight skate with the lights turned down and the tunes turned up, which seemed to be a big hit with all the skaters last year. The event will be monitored by traffic controllers to be sure the safety of all participants. There will be lots of games and many prices to be won, including Platers tickets, movie passes, food vouchers, gift certificates, bowling games, just to name a few. All they never stop! These students also have more on their agenda such as publishing books, learning new singing games and more. Grade 2/3 definitely sounds like an educational and fun place to be! THE MARATHON OF HOPE By Heather A. Elliott On Sept. 8, Mr. Maertens called the entire school to the gym for a brief assembly about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. During this time Sallianne Patch told some interesting facts about Terry Fox and showed a video which highlighted his dreams. Many of the students had already decided that they were going to have their own Marathon of Hope by participating in our school's very own Terry Fox Walk. Our walk on Sept. 19 raised $104. These proceeds were sent directly to the Cancer Society. The profits from our first dance were also donated to Cancer Research. The students did not participate in the walk just to avoid doing school work. They did it because they wanted to help Terry find his dream, and I, for one person, think they came one step closer! JUNIOR SOCCER By Dane Corneil prizes have been generously donated by various groups and local businesses. Breaks will be taken every hour with refreshments and snacks being provided to keep those skaters' batteries charged. The booth will be open as well. - >4- - > Music to make your event sparkle. 357 4049 523 9809 On Wednesday, Sept. 24, the junior soccer teams travelled to Huron Centennial School for a soccer tournament.
