Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell steady at sale The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Oct. 3 were: fed cattle, 781; cows, 175; veal and bob calves, 561; lambs and goats, 181; and stockers, 2,339. The fed steers and heifers sold steady with cows also trading steady. Veal and lambs both traded on a steady market. Stockers traded on a steady market. There were 439 steers on offer selling from $86 to $90 to the high of $94.50. Ten steers consigned by Murray Johnston, Bluevale, averaging 1,305 lbs. sold for an average of $86.96 with sales to $94.50 purchased by Dominion Meat Packers. Seven steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaging 1,374 lbs. sold for an average of $90.67 with sales to $93.50. Four steers consigned by Roy Ready, St. Marys, averaging 1,290 lbs. sold for an average of $90.24 with sales to $93. Thirty-eight steers consigned by J. A. McCann & Sons Ltd., Ailsa Craig averaging 1,447 lbs. sold for an average of $88.04 with sales to $93. Fourteen steers consigned by Murray Shiell, Wingham, averag­ ing 1,415 lbs. sold for an average of $82.90 with sales to $92.75. Thirteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,414 lbs. sold for an average of $89.31 with sales to $92.50. Six steers consigned by Earl. E. Wilson, Newton, averaging 1,340 lbs. sold for an average of $85.51 with sales to $91.75. Two steers consigned by Gordon Daer, Auburn, averaging 1,250 lbs. sold for an average of $89.68 with sales to $91.50. Six steers consigned by Darren Johnston, Bluevale, averaging 1,264 lbs. sold for an average of $89.30 with sales to $90.75. Thirteen steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,376 lbs. sold for an average of $88.84 with sales to $90.50. There were 303 heifers on offer selling from $86 to $90 to the high of $94.50. Two holstein cows consigned by Ivan Fisher, Clifford, averaging 1,453 lbs. sold for an average of $53.09 with sales to $61.50. One charolais consigned by Warden Haney, Seaforth, weighing 1,285 lbs. sold for $55.50. There were 23 bulls on offer selling from $45.50 to $64 to the high of $75. Two charolais bulls consigned by Silver Dollar Charolais Ltd., Ripley, averaging 1,487 lbs. sold for an average of $70.22 with sales to $75. One charolais bull consigned by Eli J. Stutzman, Chatsworth weighing 1,835 lbs. sold for $65. The champ Bill Finlay, a member of the Huron County 4-H Goat Club was the Champion Sweepstakes Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair on Oct. 3. Each top showperson had to show a dairy and beef calf, goat, sheep, pig and horse.
