TVs hit by storm
Freda Scott returned home,
Thursday, after being a patient at
Stratford Hospital and Wingham
and District Hospital.
Last Tuesday, Jean Pattison
returned home after being a patient
at Stratford Hospital and Wingham
and District Hospital. Friends and
neighbours wish Jean and Freda a
speedy recovery.
Thelma Pletch was a weekend
guest at the home of Joe, Ruth
Anne and Sarah Russell in Guelph.
She also visited with Kerry and
Scott Tomlinson in Kitchener.
Bob and Jane Grasby and Laura
Johnston were guests of George
and Mary Johnston at Ilderton last
weekend.
Freda Johnston enjoyed a week
with Brad and Brenda McCann and
Jackie at Brampton.
Loma Cook has returned home
after a three-week motor trip to
Deloraine, MB where she was a
guest of Marvin and Susan Cook
and family. Loma enjoyed the good
weather.
There were 11 televisions
damaged in the village on Friday,
Sept. 19 due to the storm that hit
Communion at Knox
It was a beautiful warm sunny
day as worldwide communion was
observed at Knox United Church,
Belgrave on Sunday, Oct. 5.
Greeting worshippers were
Margaret and Cliff Walsh.
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden
welcomed everyone. Song time,
silent meditation, the call to
worship and the Prayer of
Approach followed.
Praise to the Lord, Teach Me
God to Wonder, Here, O My Lord,
and a communion hymn were sung
by the congregation.
The sharing of the bread and the
cup was served by session
members, John Nixon, John
McIntosh, Elizabeth Procter,
Melanie Pletch, Mary Thomas and
Fowl supper, Thursday
Fall is here again and with it
comes Belgrave's 49th annual Fowl
Supper at the Community Centre
on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
For all newcomers to the
community and also to remind
those who have helped for years,
here is a brief history of this annual
event. Started in 1949, each year
over 1,000 people sit down together
at one time over a traditional hot
turkey supper with the whole
Sjaan Gerth earns 2nd
at cross-country meet
Congratulations to Sjaan Gerth
who captured second place in a
cross-country meet held in
Dorchester on Wednesday, Oct. 1
where approximately 150 runners
competed.
The first part of September he
competed at Laurel Creek against
with high winds, heavy rains and
thunder and lightning.
Mabel Wheeler, accompanied by
Mrs. Edith Swan, Brucefield
motored to Watkins Glen, NY to
visit friends last Thursday and
returned on Saturday.
Recently Marjorie Stopforth and
Alexandria of Oakville, visited
with Marjorie's mother, Beth
Procter, taking her on a mystery
tour and staying overnight at her
mother's. They enjoyed the lovely
scenery as they had lunch in the
Park at Bayfield.
Their drive ended up in Sarnia
where they visited with Ron Broda
and family. Mrs. Broda once
worked with Marjorie on the
airlines. Ron enjoys writing books,
as well as looking after the
museum, which used to be a
popular place for weddings.
Their mystery tour ended with
dinner with the Broda family.
Sandra Mayberry of Londesboro
visited her mother, Beth Procter,
last Saturday and enjoyed a scenic
drive through the countryside as
well as lunch at a nearby restaurant.

the offerings was received by
Alicia Potter and Kendra Moffat.
The readings were taken from the
Old Testament, John 1:1, 2: 1-10
and from Psalm 26. This was read
responsively from the bulletin. The
gospel lesson was from Mark 10,
verses 2-16.
Looking after the nursery was
Sherri Sippel.
On Oct. 14 (Tuesday) the official
board will meet in Knox United
Church basement al 8 p.m. On
Thursday, Oct. 16 - Sat., Oct. 18 is
the Ten Thousand Villages, Self
Help Crafts of the World sale at the
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship.
The Sonshine singers practise at
10 a.m. on Sunday while senior
choir practice is Mondays at 8 p.m.
community contributing time and
food to make this supper a huge
success.
Last year was another great year
realizing a profit of just over
$6,300. The proceeds go towards
the operating costs of the Belgrave
Arena and Park and sponsors minor
sports programs throughout the
year. Without the Fowl Supper
these areas might cease.
Tickets are available in the local
stores.
400 runners and placed third. On
Sept. 24 he competed against 30
runners where he placed second.
The next event will be the Huron
Perth Conference meet at F. E.
Madill on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in
which he is wished "Good Luck"
from the community.

performers at the East Wawanosh Grade 8 fundraising concert on Friday evening. Proceeds
from the show will help the class get to Quebec.
Club receives fun day invitation
The October meeting of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held Friday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
with 20 present.
President Lome Campbell
welcomed everyone. The meeting
opened with the singing of O
Canada, accompanied by Freda
Johnston at the piano.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read and adopted. The
treasurer's report was received.
The Zone 8 field representatives
are to visit the club on Nov. 7. A
pot luck dinner is planned for
12:15 p.m. Members and friends
are encouraged to attend.

Peacemakers help teachers
Meet the teacher night was
Thursday, Sept. 25. The parents
had a chance to meet the teachers,
see the classrooms, then get a bit to
eat. The Student Advisory Council
cooked hamburgers and hotdogs for
everyone.
That same night some grades had
a Dreamwriter demonstration.
Dreamwriters are a full size
keyboard with memory. Grades 3-4
and 4-5 have been both learning to
keyboard properly with the Almena
method. The students also learned
how to save their work in a file and
print it. That night they showed
New competition for 4-Hers
Attention all 4-H members! If
you are a member in good standing
in the Ontario 4-H program and
enjoy a challenge this is an
opportunity for you.
The Amber Underwood
Memorial 4-H News Report
Competition is open to all 4-H
members in Ontario. This
competition fosters the
development of writing and news
reporting skills in 4-H members.
This competition honours the
memory of Amber Underwood,
past editor of the Enthusiast
Magazine. She believed in
developing strong communication
and writing skills. Upon her
untimely death her family
established a memorial fund to
recognize and honour 4-H members
who foster her belief and wish to
develop their writing skills.
There are two categories: Junior
(10-14 before Jan. 1, 1997) and
Senior Citizen Club was received.
They are planning a Fun Day for
Saturday, Oct. 18 in the centre.
Belgrave Club is asked for two
entertainment numbers.
The Fall Rally for Zone 8 is
being held in the Grand Bend
Legion on Oct. 14 with registration
from 11:30 - 12:15 p.m. Club
members are encouraged to attend.
A request for support was
received from Wingham and Area
Seniors Day Centre. It was moved
to support their efforts.
September anniversaries were
honoured: Marj and Jim Coultes
and Les and Donna Shaw. Alice
and Gamer Nicholson celebrating
their parents.
Other classes will be working
with the Dreamwriters in the
following weeks.
PEACEMAKERS

We have Peacemakers at our
school. I am a Peacemaker. We go
on the schoolyard at recess and
lunch time to help the teacher on
duty solve the children's problems.
We make sure that the children do
not roughhouse or have any other
disagreements. If someone gets
hurt, we tell the teacher on duty.
We then take the children in and

The bus trip to Paris, Ontario to
hear the Walters family and tour
the Simcoe Christmas lights was
discussed. The bus trip is scheduled
for Dec. 9. Anyone interested in

Harvey and Audrey Edgar.

Dec. 5 were made.
