Morris council hears that taxes could increase 69% JAANTJE VAN VLIET Passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 at Versacare, Lon­ don in her 96th year. The former Jaantje de Ruyter was the beloved wife of the late Jan Van Vliet Sr. who predeceased her in 1970. She was the loving mother of Jan Van Vliet and wife Joan of RR2 Brussels, Mary Van Dyke and hus­ band Adrie of Holland, Corrie Hamelin of Penetanguishene, and Pieta Cousins and husband Lawrie of London. She was the loved grandmother of 28 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren. Mrs. Van Vliet was predeceased by two daughters Ina Romeyn and Janny Willmore. She lived for many years in Wal­ ton and area, then later at Maple Villa in Brussels. Mrs. Van Vliet was a longtime and valued member of the Brussels United Church. She was an avid reader and loved to knit, especially gifts for her cher­ ished family. Mrs. Van Vliet rested at the Betts Funeral Home, Brussels Sunday Sept. 21 from 12 until service time at 3 p.m. Rev. Christine Johnson officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Adrie Van Dyke, Lawrie Cousins, John Van Vliet Murray Cousins, Randy Cousins and Murray Mulcahy. The flowerbearers were Debbie Claessons and Janis McCooey Interment was at Brussels Ceme­ tery. In remembrance donations to the Brussels United Church choir fund, and Huron County Home Care would be appreciated by the family. WILLIAM HENRY LITTLE William Henry Little of 163 John St., Brussels, passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Friday, Sept., 12, 1997. He was 81. Bom in Hullett Twp., he attended SS #8 then farmed in the township as well as doing contract fencing. He joined the army in May, 1940, was sent to England in December of that year and served in many countries before his dis­ charge in July, 1945. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420, Blyth. Mr. Little wed Jean Wickham in Waskada, Man., on Oct. 2, 1948. He was the dear father of Janice (Gerry) MacDonald of Petawawa, Pat (Steve) Schellenberger of Born­ holm and Ted (Marlene) Little of Brussels and the loving grandfather of nine grandchildren, Chris and Cathie MacDonald, Angela and Darcey Smith, Anita, Sara and Heather Little and Nick, Vickie and Stephanie Schellenberger. He was the dear brother of Olive Capell of St. Catherines, Bea Van Dausen of London and Emily Fis­ cher of Vancouver, B.C. The funeral service was held at the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Chapel, Blyth, Sept. 20. Rev. Nancy Beale officiated. Interment was at Blyth Union Cemetery. Anita Little and Chris MacDon­ ald carried the urn while Cathie MacDonald and Heather Little bore the floral tributes. Morris Township will have a 69 per cent increase in taxes if early figures are correct. Council was informed of the impact of provincial government downloading at the Sept. 3 meet­ ing. In other business, councillors agreed to ask Seaforth Hospital what the costs would be to act as dispatch centre for Brussels and Wingham fire calls. Any further decisions will be delayed until more information is gathered. A gift certificate and letter of thanks will be sent to Fred Lobb for chairing the 9-1-1/fire area meeting held in Brussels, Sept. 2. Policing services were brought up for further review. Wingham police will be contacted to see if they are interested in a meeting concerning services. Regarding the Huronlea sidewalk project, the tender will be paid by Brussels, and Morris Twp. will pay Brussels for its portion. A motion was passed approving repairs for the approach to Clark Bridge, to be completed in conjunc­ tion with Huron County and paving in Brussels. A hidden driveway sign will be installed south of the gate at Lot 15, Cone. 6, Centre Sideroad. Also the east end of the concession will have more gravel applied next year, since the gravel applied in 1997 has been pounded into the Toad. The tender of Ryan Construction in the amount of $11,623.41 was accepted for work on the Lam- ont/Mason Municipal Drain. A petition for drainage work at Lot 4, South Part Cone. 9, was accepted by council. The request of a private landown­ er for repairs to a private tile during drainage work was denied. Scrap sold from the landfill site has brought in $2,100. Road and general accounts, in the amounts of $36,080.12 and $401,075.79 were approved for payment.
