The report on behalf of the board of directors was presented by John Schenk of Wingham. He advised the meeting that The Huron United Way has come to a major turning point in its short life. "For almost two years the Huron United Way has operated without a real chair person and has been unable to organize new efforts or to pursue new initiatives. We have all seen that there is a great deal of truth to the old adage that: 'There is no such thing as staying in one place, you either go forward or else you fall back'." He then formally announced that the board of directors of the Huron United Way has decided to go forward by hiring a new executive director. The person chosen after extensive interviews is Kimberley Bilcke of Kippen. Bilcke has a background of active participation in the community, especially in the Girl Guide move ment. She has held office in the Exeter Business Association and has business experience. She was chosen from several excellent candidates by a committee of the Board and they believe that she is the right person to meet Huron's specific needs. Congratulations to the Walton School for winning first prize for their float in the Brussels Fair. They won for the best theme float. The Grade 3/4 class had painted the bam back drop at the back of the float and had, 'You all come' written on. The kindergartens and Grade 1 rode on the float along with Phyllis Mitchell who played her hoe-down fiddle music. The rest of the school walked behind dressed in country garb and carrying banners that said, 'We're rottin' boltin’ ready!' and 'Howdy'. The school was well represented in the various classes in the fair with a lot of Walton students coming away with ribbons.
