Tigers on a tear The Brussels Tigers advanced to the Huron County Fastball League finals by defeating the Exeter Braves 8-2 to win the series in three games. The Tigers counted two runs in the first inning on a Murray Pipe double, a Todd Uhrig RBI double and a Ken Higgins RBI single. The Tigers added one more in the third as Ron Strome and Doug Shaw both singled, then Tim Fritz delivered Strome with a solid single to make the score 3-0 after three. Brussels upped their lead to 4-0 as Uhrig was plated by a Doug Conley RBI single. Fritz drove home a Greg Fritz single to make it 5-0 Tigers. The Tigers counted three more insurance runs in the seventh as hits by Conley, Brian Niell, Strome and Higgins plated the three runs. Exeter broke up Uhrig’s shutout in their last at bat with two runs. For the Tigers, Shaw was 3 for 4, with Fritz also reaching base on three occasions. Uhrig pitched the complete game 4 hits and striking out 11 Braves. The Tigers also advanced to the WOAA grand championship, eliminating the Walton Brewers in two games by defeating them 4-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers opened the scoring in the second as Conley, and Neill scored on Shaw and T. Fritz based- loaded walks. Walton evened the score at two in the'fourth on a solo homer by Mike Henry Centenaires’ new GM A Blyth resident and former coach of the Brussels Bulls Junior C hockey team has signed on as general manager for the Junior D Seaforth Centenaires. Henry, 27, who works in Wind­ sor as the sales marketing represen­ tative for a drink company, replaces Gregor Campbell. A former goalie,Henry played three seasons with the Junior C Goderich Sailors, was head-coach of the Triple A Major Bantams. Prior to his two years on the Bulls coaching staff, he coached the Blyth Midgets to the OMHA C semi-finals. Henry and his wife Sandy have two children. Jeff Cardiff's catering of the beef ensured good attendance. The hall board thanks Laura Bannon and Mrs. Sproule for the floral decorations that embellished the occasion. Many volunteers from the community and elsewhere helped make this event possible. The hall board announces the first euchre party of this season which is to take place on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. The Kids' Club will meet at the library at the Cranbrook Hall on Friday, Sept.' 19 at 7 p.m. It is for ages five to 14 years. Schneider hosts WMS meeting The Cranbrook WMS meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Lois Schneider on Sept. 9 at 8:15 p.m. President Brenda Perrie opened the meeting with a reading "What I learned at Kindergarten". One learns how to live, how to share, how to hold hands and how to cross the street. These lessons also hold true for the rest of life. Hymn 468 The Wise May Bring Their Learning was read in unison followed by scripture read from Proverbs 22: 1-16, 17-21. Mrs. Perrie then gave two farming fables which proved if people want a job well done, they should tackle it themselves. There were 31 visits made to shut-ins and four cards sent. Mrs. Perrie gave the topic on facts related to Hong Kong. She noted the operation of many large banks on this tiny group of islands. Main industries here are manufacturing of textiles - cotton clothing garments of all kinds. There is a large amount of electronic equipment shipped from here. The October meeting was planned with Mrs. Stuart Stevenson as hostess. Oct. 19 brings the church anniversary with Rev. Donald McInnis as guest speaker. m
