New owner Sandy Bechtel recently purchased Rice's Store, Hullett Twp., the shop she worked in while attending high school. By Janice Becker Citizen staff For some, dreams really do come true. Sandy Bechtel, the new owner of Rice's Store in Hullett Twp. had worked at the store while attending high school and always dreamed of one day owning the workwear shop. As of Aug. 20, she does. Rices' Store has a long history in Hullett Twp., dating back to 1966, says Bechtel. Jim Rice started in the business after peddling goods for years, she says. When he set up the business, customers came because they knew him and because of word-of mouth. To some extent, that is still how things work at Rice's Store. Bechtel says many of the customers are still ones Rice served when he first began. Hullett files resolution Because of that solid customer base, Bechtel plans on keeping the business much the way it is. After being absent from the com- munity for a number of years, Bechtel says the store still looks the same as it did when she was in high school. However, some change will be coming as she searches for new suppliers for quality goods. "Many of the small suppliers are no longer in business and I can't get good quality products at a good price from the large manufacturers." She has also added some new features including her handmade vests and other crafts contributed by family members and friends. Her sewing ability will allow her to do alterations at the store or sew on buttons for suspenders. Her inventory will change some what as she goes out of women's and children clothes and concen trates on workwear. The men's workwear lines may be expanded to include items for women and FLUSHING OF HYDRANTS The Village of Blyth Public Works Department will be flushing fire hydrants on Thursday, September 18, 1997 commencing at 9:00 a.m. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
