Gallery hosts art draw One-of-a-kind works of art representing a broad range of media can be had at the Blyth Festival's Three By Three Art Draw Saturday, Oct. 25 at Blyth Memorial Community Hall. Approximately 100 three-inch by three-inch pieces of art have been donated by artists from across the province and beyond for this unique fundraising event. Some of these artists include Andres Villar and Gerald Pedros, who both exhibited in the Bainton Gallery this year. Blyth Festival actor Anne Anglin and former Festival costume designer Kerry Hackett, and such well-known area artists as William Creighton of Lucknow, Brigit Hillier of Clinton, Jo Manning of Blyth and Michael Scott of Goderich. Everything from soapstone and pottery sculptures to watercolours and a poem by P.K. Page can be chosen by those who attend. In reporting to council at the Sept. 2 meeting, about the AMO conference held in Toronto the prior week, Blyth Reeve Mason Bailey said the resolution to have education taxes removed from property passed with no opposition from the 1,400 delegates in atten- Briefs Lights all up Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart announced to Blyth council at the Sept. 2 meeting, that all the decora­ tive street lights were installed and now in use. In response to inquiries from res­ idents regarding a ceremony, coun­ cil said the Blyth Business Association should initiate such an event. Council would participate if asked. A motion was passed to allow the removal of three streetlights along Queen Street between Drummond and Westmoreland. These lights will be used for the Greenway pro­ ject. •** Council authorized Stewart to send a letter to county council and Exeter council, endorsing their let­ ters on restructuring and county services. Bills and accounts totalling $65,840.10, were approved for pay­ ment. The passage of the resolution gives AMO and ROMA (Rural Ontario Municipalities Organiza­ tion), which passed the resolution a few weeks ago, the authority and responsibility to proceed in co-ordi­ nating all municipalities in Ontario in collectively discontinuing the collection of education taxes from all property owners, said a council press release. Council agreed to a suggestion from Bailey that a final letter from council go to all municipalities, thanking them for their support of the campaign and encourage them to actively generate momentum in implementing the resolution. Special mention was made by Bailey of the support shown by Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall, who said, "Let's do it together. Let's do it now."
