Craft show gets bigger and better every year
Indoor fun
No matter what the weather, the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion and Hobby
Show in Blyth has something to offer. The Community Centre is packed with
more that 75 crafters showing their wares.
Big, colourful and getting better every
year.
The craft displays at the Huron Pioneer
Thresher and Hobby Association Reunion
draw hundreds of visitors, admirers and
buyers to view the enormous selection of
handcrafted goods.
The entire process to organize more than
70 vendors begins months ahead of time for
co-ordinator Jean Fox of Blyth. Information
and application forms are sent to all past
participants as well as any new craftspeople
as soon as the date for the next reunion is
set.
Each year, Fox tries to incorporate a few
new exhibitors in the show while ensuring
there are not too many of any one type.
Placement around the floor of the arena is
critical as well to guard against two similar
vendors being placed too close, says Fox.
An aspect Fox has been working on in
recent years is encouraging vendors to
demonstrate their art. This year she hopes to
have a woodworker, carver and glass and
china painter.
A new feature this year will be an
exhibitor who builds and displays stringed,
musical instruments called zithers.
Of the several dozen vendors who will
show their wares at the Thresher Reunion,
most will find a location in the arena while
others will be placed outside, near the ball
diamond.
Displays include hand-painted china,
ceramics, wood whittling, knitting, jewelry,
quilting, woodworking, preserves, maple
syrup and more.
The three-day event, which brings out a
different group of crafters, offers different
selection from other shows, says Fox,
because it is a summer event. “It is a good
craft show so everyone should enjoy it.”
