Entertainment everywhere Gotta dance Sometimes you just can't resist the urge to boogie, especially with toe tapping sounds all around you at the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion, Blyth. Don Vair, CONTINUED FROM A-10 begins with camper jam sessions, scheduled for Wednesday evening, at the Auditorium and Steel Shed for old-time dancing and lessons, beginning at 8 p.m. All musicians are welcome. Thursday’s fiddle jam will be held in Sheds 1 and 2. A fiddle workshop will be conducted by Doug McNaughton of Stratford and participation will be by invitation only. This event has become very popular in recent years with more than 50 people participating. Spectators are welcome to enjoy the session. Friday brings a day filled with entertainment. There will be two stages near the Auditorium featuring local entertainers, beginning at 1 p.m. Pierce’s Band will entertain on the Second Stage, next to the arena ball diamond. In its second year of entertaining at the Thresher Reunion, a border collie demonstration will take place on the soccer field at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday. The Saturday shows will be at 11 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. while the Sunday performances will be at noon and 3:15 p.m. At 4 p.m. on Friday and 4:30 p.m the other two days, a parade review will be held at the Second Stage. Pierce’s Orchestra will move indoors, Friday evening, to provide country music for the 8 p.m. dance. Saturday events begin at 10 a.m. with local entertainment on the Main Stage. The official opening ceremonies will be at noon and a fiddle competition at 1 p.m. Joe Tiffin’s Orchestra will perform at the Second Stage at noon, followed by the Brussels Pipe Band. The pipe band moves to the ball diamond at 3 p.m. to bring music to antique car buffs as they view the exhibit on the outfield. Special events for the children and adults alike will be offered Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Radford’s ball diamond and a location just west of the field. The junior events will begin at 2 p.m. while the adult activities start at 1:30 p.m. Joe Tiffin’s Orchestra will provide the music for the Saturday dance to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the arena. Guests are invited to attend the non- denominational church service on the Main Stage at 10:30 a.m. The stepdancing competition will take place at the Main Stage at 1 p.m. Sunday with the Country Ramblers providing the musical diversion at Second Stage, at 2 p.m. For those who like hands-on activities, there are log sawing, belt setting and bag tying competitions Saturday and Sunday. The Thresher Reunion also has on-going threshing demonstrations, tractor pulls and a bevy of interesting displays to fill the early fall days. Admission to the three day event is $2 for senior citizens (Friday only), $4 for adults, and children 12 and under are charged $1 unless accompanied by an adult, then they are free. Each is a daily fee. speaker The 36th Annual Thresher Reunion and Hobby Association is hosting a non- denominational church service on Sunday, Sept. 7 for the campers, community and all interested in a music-filled sermon. Don Vair, of the Westfield Fellowship Hour Church, will be the speaker at the 10:30 a.m. service. Local talent will add a touch of music, song and storytelling to the service. Everyone is invited to attend the open-air church service at the Main Stage, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Tying one on Special events are a popular activity for the adults at the Thresher Reunion, giving them an opportunity to hone old skills or learn new ones in competitions such as bag tying or log-sawing.
