Memories bring one director to the show

three gears in the transmission and fix the

For Thomson, his goals in participating in
the running of the reunion are helping to
maintain the heritage of Huron County and
making the show bigger and better.
BILL VINCENT
Remembering bygone days brings many
visitors to the Thresher Reunion, including
director Bill Vincent of RR1, Auburn.
"We used to stook thresh at home, so I
started going (to the reunion) because of
that," he says.
Aside from childhood memories, Vincent,
who has been attending for about 30 years, is
interested in the threshing and steam
engines.
"I just want to be involved with the show."
Vincent sat as a director previously, as
well as president since he first took a post in
1986. In those years, the biggest
improvement has been the campgrounds, he
says. "It is good for the club."
JUDY SLOAN
Though she had attended the first Huron
Pioneer Thresher Reunion and Hobby Show
with her aunt and uncle, Judy Sloan of
Chesley missed several years until she
returned with her husband in 1972.
"My interest was always with the crafts,"
she says. "I was impressed with the crafts,
especially when compared to other threshing
shows."
Though this is Sloan's first time as a
director, her face may be familiar to the
thousands who walk through the gates each
fall. She has worked the gates for many
years. However, this year she has switched
her focus to the membership drive. Sloan's
husband, Jim has sat as director and
president over the years.
The people are great to work with. They
are there for fun and a good time and it is
great to meet all the visitors, Sloan says.
In between meeting obligations of her
busy schedule, Sloan says she tries to enjoy
the music in the days before the show gets
underway.
As an indication of her dedication to the
Thresher Reunion, Sloan says the family has
missed the Chesley Fair for several years
because it is the same weekend as the
reunion.
PAUL JOSLING
Though only in his first year as a director,
the association between Paul Josling and the
Thresher Reunion is long.
Through his volunteerism on the Blyth
Fire Department, holding the post of chief
for approximately nine years, Josling has
been an integral part of safety considerations
for the reunion.
"I have been involved for 15 to_ 20 years
with the department and have always been
interested in the entire show. This year, I
will be doing some general work such as
building bleachers and tables," he says. "I
just hope to help out."
MIKE ANDREWS
One of the next generation members, Mike
Andrews of London, is now in his second
year as president and his sixth year as an
executive.
Having attended the Thresher Reunion
since he was a child, Andrews says he got
involved because his family was. However,
citing a limited knowledge of engines,
Andrews says he decided to offer his own
area of value by going into management.
By being on the executive, he says he can
"ensure each aspect (of the show) is
maximized."
The team has been working on gelling
more engines to exhibit and they secured the
border collie demonstration which will
perform for the second year.
"We are making it bigger and better for the
people coming to the show."
A drawing card for the Threshers is often
the social interaction, says Andrews. "The
people get drawn into activities, then into
more involvement. They all find something
of interest."
Commenting on the younger executives
and members which are becoming more
commonplace, Andrews says they may help
to draw a younger crowd but are always
conscientious of traditions and preservation.
