Whether for the love of antique equipment,
the remembrances in watching the threshers
work, the skill of the crafts, the lyrical music
or simply for the enjoyment of people, there
is one common thread amongst the directors

and executives. They truly enjoy being
involved.
From the member who has been an
attendee at the Huron Pioneer Thresher
Reunion and Hobby Show for more than 30
years to the young people taking over
responsibilities once held by their parents,
involvement with the threshing show has, for
many, become a tradition.
BEA HOUSTON
One can't help but laugh when the stories
are told of how some of the directors first
become involved with the show, particularly
for Bea Houston, of the Drayton area.
After coming to the reunion as exhibitors
for a few years, Houston decided it was time
to get her husband more involved in the
club.
When the couple attended an annual
meeting 17 or 18 years ago, her husband was
nominated for a second vice-president
position. Being slightly hard of hearing,
Houston nudged her husband, telling him to
answer yes.
When questioned on what he was
answering yes to, Houston just replied, "I'll
tell you later."
She begins laughing as she recalls almost
having to walk home that night.
"I found I should be involved too, after
doing that to him," she says.
In recalling their years of attending the
reunion prior to becoming involved,
Houston says, "We first started going to the
reunion when a friend with a cross cut saw
came. My husband, Wayne had always
wanted a steam engine. That is when we
started attending."
She remembers her granddaughter Christy
has been going to the show since she was an
infant and is now 21.
Houston can also mark the first year the
family showed a steam engine in Blyth, it
was the same year another grandchild was
bom.
