THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3,1997 AuburnTine news from WI to attend museum reception Compiled by Mildred Lawlor Phone 526-7589 Rev. asks parish to join hymn sing Musical prelude by the organist Nancy Park began the service at Knox United on Aug. 31. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed everyone and the opening chorus Come Christians, Join to Sing was sung. Rev. Ross announced the death of Princess Diana, and extended sympathy to the Royal Family and all who mourn. Sunday school services begin next Sunday, Sept. 7. Contact the superintendent Anne vincent for further information. Rev. Ross told the congregation to arrive 10 minutes early next Sunday for a before service hymn sing. Prayer was given, followed by the singing of This is the Day that the Lord has Made. Scripture was read from Luke 18. In this a widow asks a judge for vengeance of her adversaries. He did nothing but the woman kept coming and bothering him until he did avenge. This parable teaches that one should pray and not give up, said Rev. Ross. The children's chorus Jesus Loves the Little Children was sung. The minister had a deck of cards and spoke about playing cards. "Even if you are continually losing the game - keep playing - some day you will win," he said. Rev. Ross spoke about Sparky, a boy who seemed to have no talent. He was not good in sports or music and always had poor marks. However, he did like art, particularly cartoon. Sparky ended up by drawing a popular Charlie Brown comic. He showed persistence! Prayer was given, followed by the saying of The Lord's Prayer. Give Me Oil in My Lamp was sung. Rev. Ross continued with the secret of Michael Jordan's success. Michael Jordan is a basketball star who has won numerous awards. Rev. Ross named various other sports stars who had talent but worked to become the champions that they are. "Throughout life each one of us must be faithful and strive to work for God to the best of our ability. Christ gave His life for us," he said. Prayer was said and the offertory received by Marilyn and Peter Verbeek, the doxology sung and offertory prayer given. The hymn Pass it On was sung followed by benediction to close the service.
