Cronin will accompany her father on piano as he sings a stirring rendition of Nobody's Child. A trio of singers from Goderich and Clinton, including Shelley McPhee Haist, Judy Stewart and Louise Dockstader, will also perform. Known as The Miracles because of the gospel songs they usually sing, this trio will change their act to country style and be called The Miracles in Denim for the purposes of the show. Beverley Elliott, a professional actress and singer who appeared in the Blyth plays Booze Days and Nothing in the Paper this year, will perform as a local act (she's originally from Listowel) on preview night Aug. 26. There will also be three different groups of stepdancers, including Black Magic (Kennedy Baker and Melissa Hart of Clinton and Michelle Bovey and Katie Anne Vivian of Mitchell), and New Horizons (Stacey Nicholson, Kristie Carter and Tracy and Heather Verhoeve all of Mitchell) and Family Ties (Julie Moffat and Stacy and Denise Harris all of Mitchell). Some local acts - like Betty Big 50 September 2 HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD Kevin, Brent & Heidi Beer, Kira Stuckey, Arthur Warren, New Horizons, Family Ties and two members of Black Magic (Kennedy Baker and Melissa Hart) - are veterans from last year's shows. The rest are new. One of these, Mary Lou Dixon, will perform a song her late father wrote in 1938 called Somebody Else is Taking My Place. It was recorded by Bing Crosby and Connie Francis. Baker has an interesting connection the show because her great-grandfather Archie Mann, was a fiddle player on the original Barn Dance show. Her grandfather Bob Mann of Clinton - Archie's son - has been chosen to play fiddle as one of the local acts. Headlining the local talent on opening night Aug. 27 will be another Barn Dance alumnus, Ernie King.
