HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1997-08-27, Page 21GARY BRUCE RICHMOND The community was saddened by the passing of Gary Bruce Rich­ mond, Aug. 13, 1997 at the age of 38. Surrounded by his family, at his residence in Brussels, Gary passed away peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with a brain tumor. Bom in Kitchener, Gary grew up on the 8th of Morris Twp. He attended SS No. 1 Morris, Blyth Public School and F.E. Madill Sec­ ondary School. He received his motor vehicle mechanic license from Fanshawe College, London, in 1981. He wed Marlene Pennington, Aug. 18, 1984, at Brussels St. John's Anglican Church. They soon made their home in the village. Gary loved and valued his chil­ dren, Aaron and Krista, teaching them about his own life experi­ ences and what he had gained from his travels. He encouraged their desire to learn and seek education, telling them always, "You can do it." Trucking, his chosen profession, was his passion and he was the best. He enjoyed fishing and had a great love for the north. Besides his wife and children, Gary will also be sadly missed by his parents, Bruce and Ula Rich­ mond of Blyth, mother-in-law Mary Pennington and her friend Charlie Storey of Winthrop and the late Jack Pennington. Gary was the loving grandson of Raymond and Jean Griffiths, Miller Richmond and the late Ella Rich­ mond, all of Blyth. He was the dear brother of Dar­ ren and Michelle Richmond of Blyth, Karen Stewart of Blyth and Sherry Richmond of Windsor, brother-in-law of John and Bonnie Pennington of Brussels, Beth McCauley and the late Gerald McCauley of Brussels and Bonnie Jacklin and her friend, Mike of Bluevale. He is also survived by several nieces and Nephews. He is loving remembered by his very special niece, Sharie Jacklin. Gary will always be remembered by his very close and precious friends. At his request, there was no visi­ tation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 28, at St. John's Anglican Church, Brussels. Memorial contributions to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Cana­ da, 111 Waterloo Street, Suite 201, London , Ont., N6B 2M4; Commu­ nity Nursing Services, General Delivery, Belgrave, Ont., NOG 1E0 or St. John's Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Betts Funeral Home, Brussels. ROBERT GIBSON Robert Gibson of Gorrie passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Wingham and District Hospital, in his 90th year. He was a past master of Ford- wich Masonic Lodge #331 AF & AM, of which he was a member for more than 50 years, past reeve of Howick Twp. which he held for two terms, a member of Huron County council and past president and honorary member of the How­ ick and Turnberry Agricultural Societies. Mr. Gibson was the beloved hus­ band of Florence Gibson, loving father of Douglas and Joan Gibson of Orangeville, Charles and Brenda Gibson and Robert and Genevieve Gibson, all of Kitchener and loving grandfather of Courtney, Lindsey, Ashley and Colby Gibson, of Orangeville and Brent Tyler and Kierra Gibson of Kitchener. He was the dear brother of the late Margaret Wells, Mary Wear­ ring and Helen Gibson and loved brother-in-law of Jack and Willa Douglas of Gorrie. Visitation was held at Betts Visi­ tation Centre, Gorrie. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated at the service from Fordwich United Church, Aug. 23. Interment was at Fordwich Cemetery, Fordwich. Pallbearers were Carl Stewart, Wilbert Freeman, Doug King, Mur­ ray Donaldson, Berry Gibson and Mac Ingles. Donations to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. ROBERT HARPER Robert Harper of Gorrie passed away, Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Wingham and District Hospital, in his 65th year. He was the beloved husband of Beverley Harper, loving father of Brant Harper of Gorrie and Graham and Heather Harper of Barrie, loved son of Emily Harper of Lis- towel and the late Sidney Harper and loved son-in-law of Laura and Don Houghton of Oakville. He was the dear brother of Gary and June Harper of Listowel and brother-in-law of Lloyd and Joyce Smith, Yvonne Dubois and Marilyn Bennett, all of London. He will be missed by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at Betts Visitation Centre, Gorrie, Sunday, Aug. 24. Interment was at Elma Centre, Atwood. Pallbearers were Gord Haasnoot, Lloyd Smith, Bill Harper, Ed Stein, Bill Le Blanc and Ray Stewart. Donations to the Palliative Care of Wingham and District Hospital, London Health Centre, London, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
