HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1997-08-20, Page 21REINHARDT BAUER Reinhardt Bauer of Biussels passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 1997 at Listowel Memorial Hospital in his 87th year. The son of the late August and Katherine (Mogk) Bauer, Mr. Bauer was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wallace Twp. He was the loving husband of Mabel (Lease), and dear father of Doris and Jim Ward of Monkton, Orval and Ruth Bauer of Brussels, Mervyn and Donna Bauer of Brus­ sels, Marilyn and Keith Campbell of Rockwood, Joan Robinson-Mor­ row and Dave Morrow of London, Jean and Jim Fox of Kitchener, Royce and Brenda Bauer of Owen Sound, Darrell and Cathy Bauer of Cambridge, Doug and Sheila Bauer of London and Cheryl and Paul Ryan of Walton. Mr. Bauer was much loved and will be sadly missed by 25 grand­ children and four great-grandchil­ dren. He is also survived by one broth­ er, Albert Bauer of Mitchell, and three sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by three grandchildren, two sisters and five brothers. Visitation was at Betts Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral service was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wal­ lace Twp., Aug. 14. Pallbearers were Randy Ward, Brett Bauer, Kerry Bauer, Jason Campbell, Thomas Robinson, Michael Fox, Stephen Bauer and Colin Bauer. Honourary pallbearers were Cur­ tis Ryan, Eric Ward, Rodney Bauer, Darrin Bauer, Vincent Bauer, Kelly Bauer, Adam Bauer and Matthew Ryan. Carrying the floral tributes were Lindsay Bauer, Bev Hanna, Tracey Campbell, Kim Lorimer, Rhonda Fox, Lorrie Robinson, Rebecca Bauer, Nicole Bauer and Amy Bauer. Flowers or donations to St. Paul's Lutheran Church would be appreci­ ated by the family. JOYCE L. SHADE Joyce L. Schade of Brussels, for­ merly of RR1, Listowel, passed away al Seaforth Community Hos­ pital, Aug. 17,1997. She was 68. Bom July 31, 1929 to Russell Pomeroy (1977) and the former Frances Binns (1991), in Harriston, she was the beloved wife of Neil Schade. She was a member of Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels and an avid aviation enthusiast. Mrs. Schade was the dear mother of Caroil and her husband, Bryan Duffy of Richmond Hill, Don Schade of Brussels and Kent Schade of Winnipeg, Man. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Rev. Cathrine Campbell and Rev. Mark Gedcke officiated at the ser­ vice which was held at the Robert Trench Funeral Home, Listowel, Aug. 19. Interment was at Brussels Ceme­ tery. Pallbearers were Kent Schade, Don Schade, Bryan Duffy, Stan Schade, Elgin Schade and Warren Gedcke. Memorial remembrances to The Canadian Cancer Society, Melville Church or The Arthritis Society would be appreciated. JOHN STEWART MCG AVIN John Stewart McGavin died of heart failure at his home in Clarksburg, ON July 29, 1997. He was 62. Mr. McGavin was the eldest son of the late Florence and Gordon McGavin. He is survived by his daughter Leslie and her husband Harry Fisher of NorthEast, Maryland, U.S.A., sons Dr. Martin McGavin and his wife Dr. Mary of Etobicoke and Scott McGavin and his wife Patricia of Guelph. He is also survived by his brother Neil and his wife Marie of RR 4, Walton, his sister Elizabeth and her husband Bill Dinsmore of Brampton as well as several nieces and nephews. Family, friends and former colleagues attended a memorial service at Grace United Church, Thombury, Aug. 4. John graduated from the University of Guelph and the University of Toronto as a civil engineer and many of the roads in the Collingwood area are a result of his work. He was a founding member of the Thombury Yacht Club and had a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the surrounding area. Donations in John's memory may be made to Grace United Church, Thombury, ON NOH 2P0; Duffs United Church, Walton; or the Heart Fund. Morris sets meeting to discuss 911 response The matter of fire response areas came before Morris council at the Aug. 5 meeting when they learned Brussels firefighters had been solic­ iting support from Morris Twp. res­ idents. The firefighters had been asking Morris Twp. residents to lobby council to set the call response area for 9-1-1 such that Brussels would receive the call and they would then contact Blyth and Wingham. Council agreed to set a meeting date few Sept. 2, at BMG Commu­ nity Centre, to discuss the matter. Everyone in the Brussels Fire Area, Brussels council and Blyth and Wingham fire chiefs would be invited. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20,1997 PAGE 21. Seaforth hospital expands services The board of directors of the Seaforth Community Hospital is pleased to announce an expansion to the hospital's Outpatient Medical Clinic services with the addition of an Allergy Clinic and a Geriatric Assessment Clinic which will commence in early September. Dr. Harold Kim, an allergy specialist, will be conducting a monthly clinic beginning Sept. 9. Dr. Kim has recently begun similar clinics at the Stratford and St. Marys hospitals and has accepted the hospital's invitation to establish an outpatient clinic in Seaforth. Dr. Richard Crilly, a gerontologist associated with the Parkwood Hospital (London), will be conducting a monthly Geriatric Assessment Clinic commencing Sept. 5. Dr. Crilly, in co-operation with the Huron Geriatric Assess­ ment Team, will be addressing the complex health care needs of our elderly residents referred to this service. With the addition of these two Nightlife at Nature Centre On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority invites your family to "Experience the Night Life" at the Wawanosh Nature Centre on an evening hike. The adventure will begin at 8 p.m. and feature Creatures of the Night, Stargazing and a Campfire. Register by contacting the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority at 519-335-3557. Admission is $4 per person or $15 per family. Book early as there is limited number of spaces. It is suggested that participants may want to bring a flashlight. Bill Thibert, hospital CEO said, "This expansion enables our hospital to provide a more comprehensive level of health care services to our Residents by delivery these particular services in our community." He indicated that the recently released Rural and Northern Health Care Framework strongly supports the expansion of Outpatient Medical Clinics in rural hospitals as a means of enhancing access to health care services. He also noted that the establishment of a Geriatric Assessment Clinic is supported in the recent Huron Perth District Health Council's Hospital and Related Health Services Study report. The Wawanosh Nature Centre is located north of Blyth, west of Hwy. 4, on Nature Centre Road (Cone. 6/7 of East Wawanosh).
