THOMAS GILBERT HETHERINGTON Thomas Gilbert Hetherington of RR 3, Brussels passed away at home on Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997. He fought a very courageous battle with cancer and managed to maintain his well-known sense of humour and wit throughout the entire length of his illness. Gilbert was bom in Lincoln, New Brunswick on May 17, 1926. On Oct. 10, 1949 he married the former Margaret DeGroot. In 1956 Gilbert and Margaret moved to Ontario and farmed for a number of years. He was also an avid gardener and derived much pleasure from his trees. Left to mourn Gilbert are his wife, Margaret and daughter, Helen. He was the dear brother-in- law of Gerrit and Ria DeGroot from Holland, Agri and Rita Hoogendam, Percy and JoAnn Henry, Al and Wilma Swarts and Gary and Nelly VanDyk all of Brockville. He will be sadly missed by his very special friends Doug and Evelyn Purdy. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Gilbert and Helen Manson (Adams) and his sister Mary Hetherington. Gilbert rested at the Betts Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday. Pallbearers were Gary Evans, Brent Evans, Ken Fischer, Murray Fischer, Ari Hoogendam and Frank Workman. Doug Purdy of Wingham Salvation Army and Lt. Marc Pittoch officiated at the service. Interment was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. Memorial donations to Community Nursing Services, Huron County Home Care Services or Seaforth Hospital would be appreciated by the family. LOUISE SMITH Mrs. Louise Smith of Grand Bend, formerly of Mitchell, died on July 23, 1997 at London Health Science Centre, University Campus. She is survived by her husband, William Smith, with whom she had owned and operated the Smith Nursing Home in Mitchell since 1969. She is also survived by her mother, Isabel Shortreed of Walton, three sons Ronald and wife Brenda of Mitchell, Gary and wife Heidi of RR 5, Stratford, Jerry and wife Janet of Mitchell and a daughter Barbara and her husband Al Wilker of Mitchell, and 11 grandchildren. She was the sister of Ken Shortreed and wife Judy, and Joan Beureman of Stratford. A brother-in-law, Leonard Smith and wife Karen of Georgetown and a sister-in-law Doris and husband Neil Foster of Linwood are also left to mourn her passing. She was predeceased by her father Jim Shortreed and her parents-in-law John and Edith Smith. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Mitchell where the funeral was held Saturday, July 26. The service was conducted by Rev. Peter Bush. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jim Shortreed, Robert Shortreed, Michael Beureman, Scott Beureman, Randy Beureman, Howard Smith, Steven Foster and Robert Foster. JOSEPH ALAN DUNBAR Joseph Alan Dunbar of RR1, Belgrave, passed away at Wingham and District Hospital, Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at the age of 66. Mr. Dunbar is survived by his daughters, Kathy and Ray McNi- chol of RR2, Blyth, Janice Dunbar and Dave Higgins of RR4, Goderich, Karen and Darryl Youngblut of Blyth and his sons, David and Linda Dunbar of Kil­ bride, Donald and Cathy Dunbar of Auburn and Daryl and Wendy Dunbar of Belgrave. He is also sur­ vived by his sister, Loma Cook of Belgrave, his brother, Keith and Marie Dunbar of Stratford, his friend, Pat Maclnnes of Walkerton and 17 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Patricia Peckitt and his parents, Joseph and Margaret (Bry- dges) Dunbar. Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiat­ ed at the service from McBumey Funeral Home, Wingham, Aug. 2. Interment was at Brandon Ceme­ tery, Belgrave. Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church, Belgrave of the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated as expres­ sions of sympathy. EVELYN JEAN ANDREWS Mrs. Evelyn Jean Andrews, for­ merly of Auburn, died at Clinton Retirement Home on Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997. She was 87. Bom in East Wawanosh Twp. to the late William John Dobie and Margaret Martin Bradnock on July 22, 1910, Mrs. Andrews married James Warner Andrews, who pre­ deceased her in 1990. A homemaker, Mrs. Andrews was the beloved mother of Audrey and Keith Machan of Auburn, Sandy and Shirley Andrews of Auburn, Marie Andrews of Clinton, Ruth Andrews of Goderich, Bill and Bernadette Andrews of Auburn, Kaye Seers of Auburn and Linda and Brian Mustard of RR2, Clinton. She was the dear sister of Margaret Russell of Toronto, Mary and Wilfred Kinahan of Goderich and Gordon and Beth Dobie of Auburn. She will be sadly missed by 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grand­ children. Mrs. Andrews was predeceased by three daughters in infancy, one granddaughter, Lisa Michelle Seers and one son-in-law, John Seers. Visitation was at the Tasker Chapel of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral homes on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. Rev. Paul Ross officiated. Carrying floral tributes for grand­ ma were Brent Andrew^, Todd Andrews, Shawn Seers and Ian Andrews. Pallbearers were grandsons, Randy Machan, Bradley Andrews, Mark Brown, Darcy Andrews, Michael Andrews and Terry Brown. Interment was at Dungannon Cemetery. The second half opened with Newton pressing Brussels. However, Brussels' Adam Carr was able to carry the ball forward. He was tripped in the penalty area and the Newton keeper was able to grab his penalty shot. Exel moved in quickly and kicked the loose ball into the net.
