THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 1997 Homecoming ’97, one fun- filled weekend Up and away Those beautiful balloons were released at the Brussels Homecoming's opening ceremonies in front of the Legion on Friday night. Town Crier Wayne Lowe rings the bell while Jim Prior and Ralph Watson release 125 balloons each carrying a message to the finder. Still having fun Laid back and relaxed, Ross Mitchell and his chicken seem to be enjoying their ride through Brussels as they participate in the Homecoming parade. Animal affair A puddy-tat There were all kinds of colourful, cuddly characters on Brussels main street this past weekend as Kids Street provided entertainment in many forms. The Richmond Family Zoo went on parade, Sunday, as the children were caged and cuddly for the long ride past the ball park and down Turnberry Street in Brussels. Hear ye! Finger lickin’ Jeremy Ross, 1 1/2, of Brussels enjoys the cool ice-cream served up compliments of IGA during Kids' Street on a very warm Saturday afternoon in Brussels. The special event was part of the village's 125th anniversary celebrations over the holiday weekend. Brussels Homecoming Town Crier Wayne Lowe got down to work officially at the Thursday night Talent Show. Besides Wayne, Jo-Ann McDonald and John Lowe kept visitors informed as to where the action was throughout the celebratory weekend. The bearded men Joyce Statia takes a closer look at the beards grown for Homecoming, which she and her husband Paul were judging. Prizes were awarded to, from left: Bill Clark, sexiest, John Harrison, best groomed; Don Crawford, best attempt; Jack McCutcheon, most colourful; Bob McCutcheon, bushiest; Wayne Lowe, longest and Councillor Mary Stretton, phoniest.
