Although it has not yet been officially opened, children flocked to the brand new wading pool to cool off in it during the heat wave. The pool, which is a joint project of the local Lions Club and Canadian Legion Branch, is located just across the street from the south east corner of Victoria Park. Constructed by the Thomas Construction Co., and voluntary labour, it is concrete, 50 x 25 feet with water depth from 6 to 22 inches. The land was purchased from Mrs. Thomas Miller; trees removed; ground levelled. It is intended to also have bowling greens on the property. The Lions Club and Legion have each already contributed $500 of a pledged $1,000 and the Village Council gave a $200 grant to the project. The date of the official opening has not as yet been arranged but in the meantime the youngsters are enjoying the pool, thanks to those who have made it available. Restaurant has candy comer From a story by David Proulx, Telegram Staff Reporter, 1959. In Doris McDonald's restaurant, for example, the fixtures are modem but tucked away in a comer is an old-fashioned candy counter where children can peer through glass at a dozen trays.
