Ross Lumsden and Doug
Gardner from Toronto visited Peter
Hagedoorn. When they saw the
Maitland River at the Cranbrook
Bridge they said that it reminded
them of scenery in England.
Peter Hagedoom's sister Marion,
her friend Theresa D'Aoust from La
Salle, and Sister Felicitas, a Sister
of Providence of St. Vincent de
Paul from Kingston, visited.
Together they received visitors
from Amstelveen in Holland, Karel
Unger and Axel Van Wieringen.
Peter and Marion had lost contact
with these two family friends in
1950. They were located through
the good offices of a radio program
that runs in Holland on a weekly
basis called "Address Onbekend"
(Address Unknown). It was a
wonderful reunion.
The Minielly family had a most
enjoyable day at Wonderland.
Hilda Saxon, Scarborough, is
visiting her son, John, for two
weeks. The Saxons will travel to
Minden to visit John's sister, Alice
Burt, formerly of RR 1, Ethel.
Lisa Burt competed in the World
Police Games held in Calgary last
week. Lisa won fifth place in the
badminton competition. Congratu
lations from family and friends.

Brussels, Newton tie
Thunder and lightning delayed
the game between Brussels I U-10
and Newton 2, for 15 minutes but
finally the game got started.
Newton started the scoring by
kicking the ball past Garrett
Backhaus. Matthew White tied the
game by sneaking one past their
strong goaltender. The play was
back and forth for the rest of the
game.
In the second half, Newton
managed to score against Jacob
Dettweiler on a penalty kick.
Brussels attempted to score several
times and finally on a pass from
Chris Corbett in front of their net,
White deflected it in to tie the game
once again.
Neither team was able to score
before the end of the game.

Weather dampens tourney
Thursday July 3, 40 dedicated
lawn bowlers braved wind and rain
to finish a tournament held at the
Brussels greens. The tournament
was sponsored jointly by Brussels
IGA and Mailland Valley Financial
Services.
Supper was served by the ladies
of the Brussels Club during one of
the heavier showers but the intrepid
bowlers returned to the greens and
finished the tournament by playing
a couple of ends in the rain.
A tournament may be terminated
after one and one half games have
been played so everyone stopped
after the sixth end of the second
game.
Prizes were awarded as follows:

Seaforth; second, Elmer Murray
and Audrey Walsh, Clinton; third,

Hit parade in the fourth

saw Belgrave tag on seven. Then in
the home half, a runner was caught
at second for the first out, by Orrey
Bromley. A double play ended the
inning, when Trevor Hopf, after
snaring a pop fly, touched third,
catching the runner off the bag.
Walton had added one to their
score.
The third inning was a smaller
one from Belgrave with only two
runs scoring. The team then shutout
Walton, with Hopf getting the first
out, which was followed by two
strikeouts.
A Belgrave hit parade was on
again in the fourth with seven more
runs added. In the bottom of the
inning, Hopf caught another pop
fly. Then after a strikeout, Darcey
Cook got the final out at first.
Belgrave came up a little more
quietly in the fifth, adding just
three to their run total. Walton did
n't give in, scoring two runs in their
half before the inning ended.
Pitching for Belgrave were Cook,
Hopf and Kyle Procter.
