Belgrave trounces Atwood Atwood PeeWee Boys were not exactly shown a good time when they came to Belgrave June 30 and went home in defeat. The final score was 16-5 for their hosts. After a scoreless first inning, Atwood got on the board in the sec ond with one, only to have Travis Hopper cancel it when he crossed the plate for Belgrave. The third was all Belgrave's with Devin Moffatt, Craig Marks, Justin Campbell, Matt Walker, Curtis Knight, Kent McPherson, Kent Readman and Hopper coming Brussels PeeWees lose, win The Brussels PeeWee Boys lost one and tied one in recent baseball action. After travelling to Atwood on June 25, the team played well, but couldn't pull out a win, coming away on the down side of a 9-4 contest. The first inning was a good start with pitcher Matthew Kroll and the defense, sitting the first three bat ters down in order. A homerun from Bryce Wedow cashed in two other runners, Blair Smith and Philip Leger in the sec ond, to put Brussels ahead 3-1. In the third Mike Walker stole second, then Matthew Elliott was walked. The runners move up after a basehit by Tim Harrison. McK- ercher's base hit cashes in Walker, then some heads-up stealing makes for a good deal of excitement. The score was 4-3 for the visitors at the end. Unfortunately a solid third for Atwood, who then turned around and shut out the visitors at the top of the fourth, turned it around. Matt McCall came in in the bot tom of the fourth to pitch for Kroll and shut them down. On the next night, they played Auburn. The first inning highlight was a three-run base hit by McK- ercher, scoring Wedow, McCall home, after shutting down the visi tors in the top half of the inning. Atwood showed some spark in the fourth with three runs, but four more for Belgrave kept the pressure on. Jason Fear, Marks, Justin Campbell, and McPherson made it home. Atwood managed one more in the fifth, then were stymied in the sixth and seventh. Belgrave’s Mof fatt and Walker scored in the fifth and Readman in the sixth to widen the hometown's lead. Belgrave pitchers were Camp bell, Walker and Marks. and Walker. McCall's pitching held the Auburn squad to one run. In the second inning, Blair Smith, and Leger were walked, then a line drive by Kroll brought Smith home. McCall has a two RBI hit, scoring Kroll and Leger. Later a third base throwing error costs Brussels two runs to end the inning 6-3 for Brussels. After a scoreless third, Brussels moves ahead on the fourth when Leger gets on board and is brought home by a Wedow hit. Unfortu nately, the team gave up fdur runs to an Aubum outfield hit, which ate up the lead and tied things going into the fifth. Two more scoreless innings dashed the Brussels' teams hopes of a win on this night. Belgrave Mites win big The Belgrave Mite Boys stormed into Walton June 30 and blew them away 24-5. After scoring five runs in the first, Belgrave pitching struck out three, while defense held the scor ing to two in the bottom half.
