Sports U-10s battle heat and tough team
Wolves, Bears play to 5-3 end
On June 26, the Wolves and
Bears met on the mini soccer field.
It was an exciting, well matched
game with end-to-end play. In the
end the Wolves scored a total of
five goals, while the Bears netted
three.
Taylor Prior showed good ball
Bears, with one being kicked in by
Randy Zwep. Alix Sholdice had
some solid kicks and came close to
scoring and Gavin Bowers grabbed
some hard shots while minding the
net.

The Brussels II - U-10 soccer
team journeyed into Perth County
to battle both the heat and a skilled
Wallace squad on Tuesday, June
24.
The Wallace team was by far the
strongest Brussels has faced so far,
as evidenced by the final 10-0
score. In spite of the somewhat
lopsided score, Brussels players
demonstrated "true grit",
continuing to give 100 per cent
effort until the final whistle. The
whole team demonstrated maturity
and good sportsmanship and should
Steve Bowers.
Of note, halfback Justin Hubbert
several times displayed fine ball
handling skills, that can no doubt
be developed further with hard
work and concentration. Alyssa
Ruttan played a fine game at
fullback, defusing a number of
Wallace scoring chances. All other
players deserve honourable
mention as well, said Bowers.
Next Tuesday, Brussels hopes to
use the experience gained to
achieve improved results when they
host an Elma team that tied the
Wallace squad.

Belgrave Mites lose big
It was a tough game for the Bel
grave Mite Boys when they trav
elled to Belmore, June 23.
The squad was shut out until
their final at-bat when Trevor Hopf
belted a two-run homer, spurred on
by Kris Stryker stealing home for
the team's first run.
The defense made some nice
plays behind Hopf, Darcey Cook
and Kyle Procter who shared duties
on the mound.
For the third out in the second
inning, Hopf picked up a dropped
pop up after two other players col
lided and got the force out at sec
ond base.
Spencer Shaw made a nice catch
in the bottom of the fourth, to get
the third out at first base.
A nice double play was complet
ed in the fifth. The batter was auto
matically out on an infield fly with
less than two out and a runner was
tagged out trying to advance on the
same play.
"The Belgrave Boys are starting
to come together as a team," says
Coach Steve Cook, "but lost to a
strong, skilled team from Bel
more."
The final was 21-3.

As driveways and parking lots play an important part in the appearance of the
landscape of your property, it is important that the material you choose to surface it
with is attractive, but more importantly is durable.
Asphalt is flexible, and irr this respect can withstand almost any type of weather
conditions. Therefore, an asphalt driveway or parking lot, if properly installed with
good materials, will afford a lasting, low maintenance surface. It is also free from
breaks and cracks which would allow weeds to protrude.
JAMES SYMES PAVING & MATERIALS is locally owned and operated by JIM
SYMES. They specialize in asphalt paving of complete driveways, parking lots,
tennis courts plus sidewalks and also do foundation spraying and concrete work.
They will ensure that an adequate thickness of asphalt is evenly applied,
compressed and that the site is left clean after the job is completed.
A true test of a good paving job is how well rainfall drains away and also the
durability of the surface after enduring a rough winter and spring thaw. JAMES
SYMES PAVING & MATERIALS can provide complete paving and driveway
sealing services for your residential, industrial, or commercial lot and price it very
competitively. For a free, no obligation estimate, call 528-3047
