Though this is one of the most- often thought of benefits of owning a hot tub, for Pat and George Langlois of Brussels, the installation of the frequently- considered luxury was due to advice from a physician. "Though he could not guarantee results," says Pat, "he suggested 15 to 20-minute soaks in a hot tub might help alleviate some of the pain caused by my arthritis." Saying she didn't want to take pills for the painful ailment, the Langloises decided to give the hot tub a try. "For me it works," says Pat. "I can soak for a few minutes in the morning and feel good all day, or getting in the tub later in the day, relaxes me." George agrees the hot tub is a great place to relax after a day at work or those first few ball or hockey games of the season. "We played three ball games in one day and I went to the hot tub afterwards. The other guys on the team said they would be fine. They could barely move the next day," he says. The Langloises have invited friends over for hot tub parties and even offered time in the hot tub, which is located on a closed-in side deck, as an anniversary gift. However, they say the tub is most for personal, day-to-day use. Though great for relaxing, the Langloises warn against the over- consumption of alcoholic bever ages while in the tub. The warm temperatures cause the alcohol to hit the drinker much quicker and harder, says George. Though some consider it similar to a pool because of the chemicals required and the fact that the water remains in the tub for weeks, Pat stresses it is more like a bathtub, though not one for washing with soap. The Langloises describe it as a combination of both. To add to the peace and tranquility the couple finds relaxing in their hot tub, they often enhance the atmosphere by dimming the lights to a low flicker from a string of coloured bulbs draped from the ceiling beams and light a few candles. Listening to soothing music can also help create the perfect setting. Situated next to the tub is a basket filled with scented oils to add to the hot tub (specially formulated for hot tub use) and a selection of skin lotions for application after a soak. "Warm water dries the skin," says Pat, "so we always use lotions afterwards." Pat says one of the most pleasant times to sit in the tub is on a cold and blustery winter day, watching the snowflakes fall outside through the expanse of windows which run along one length of the deck enclosure. a cold winter evening, the Langloises says they use the tub almost as much in the summer. By cooling down the water temperature to just below body temperature, it feels more like a swimming pool, says Pat. "The grandchildren love to go in anytime." As for the upkeep of their hot approximately $1 per day in electricity (they leave it running at would come to use the hot tub as much as they do, but have found it Though great for warming up on Testing the waters George Langlois of Brussels checks the temperature of his hot tub before venturing in. "They are very low maintenance," he says. "For what we get out of it, it is definitely worth it." In their six years of ownership, the Langloises never thought they to be a getaway, an escape from the rest of the world. "It is great therapy for the mind and the body," says George. When questioned about the benefits of the hot tub, Pat has a simple reply. "While some people go to Florida in the winter, we go to our Florida room," says Pat. z ' ' ' ' Quality Inground and Aboveground Pools Middegaal Pools & Sports Sales & Service Your Authorized Dealer BioGuard 234 Main St. North Seaforth 519-527-0104 WE INVITE YOU TO SEE US AT OUR SHOWROOM Marquis Spasand Fox Pools "Aqua Leader " Above Ground Pools Lennox Elite Series air conditioners well, so you save money over the long run. 7 o find out warrantv. fhev re energv-efficient as SURE, SOME A/Cs MAY GIVE YOU MORE BANG FOR YO UR BUCK.
