With a ball coming at you on one side and a burly runner on the other, Margaret Jarvis looks a little less than enthusiastic about making this play on first, during the game between Hug-a-Neighbour and the Bandits. The fun was during the Park Recreation Development tournament in Brussels this past weekend. Grand slam ties it for Belgrave Mites PreMites win their first The Belgrave Mite Boys tied it with Wingham on June 16 in a home game. Darcey Cook and Trevor Hopf split the pitching duties in this close contest. Belgrave led the way with seven runs in the first to Wingham's four. Then Wingham got on top in the second with six runners crossing the plate, while Belgrave managed just one. GRADUATION Darryl A. Jardin graduated June 14th from Sir Sandford Fleming College, Lindsay. He achieved a diploma in the two year Forestry Technician course and also the one year Law Enforcement program. Darryl is currently employed by Frontier Security. Way to go Darryl! Congratulations, with love, Dad, Mom, Mike and Debbie, and your friends and family. Wingham took a commanding lead in the third with three runners coming home, while Belgrave again scored only one. Not to be undone, however, Bel­ grave rallied with seven to Wing- ham's three in the fourth highlighted by Hopfs grand slam. Graduation Kim Mayberry graduated May 10th from the 2 year Exotic Animal Training & Management Program at Moorpark, California. She is currently working at the Bowmanvllle Zoo training camels for an upcoming movie starring Antonio Banderas. Kim Is the daughter of Larry & Sandra Mayberry of Londesboro. We are so proud of you. Love Dad, Mom & Family It was a week of highs and lows when the Brussels PreMites played back-to-back ball games, June 18 and 19. Led by the great defense of Jill Bridge, the Brussels squad captured their first victory of the season, overtaking Gowanstown 14-9. The team took advantage of the seven singles in the first, pushing six runners across the plate. Singles were popped by Chris Becker, Bri- anne Wheeler, Justin Pipe (RBI), Cody Subject, Bridge (RBI), Mea­ gan Keffer (two RBIs) and Bradley Quesenberry (RBI). As the tenth batter, Dustin Lichty also earned an RBI. Gowanstown started strong, rack­ ing up five in the first. With a slim lead, Brussels went on the offensive again. Andrew Lindsay started the attack with a double, followed by singles from Becker, Ashley Sholdice, Wheeler, Pipe and Subject. RBI tallies were added to the records of Becker, Subject, Keffer and two for Pipe. Hullett blasts Holmesville Taking their record to four and 0, Hullett PeeWees blasted Holmes­ ville II in their June 16 match up. By the end of the second, Hullett was up 8-2 over the visitors, aided by a first inning homerun off the bat of Melissa Snell. Adding to the seven run attack by Hullett in the third, Lindsey Howitt added a homer. Holmesville's offense got up and running in the final frame, pushing Wallace edges Brussels U-12s The Brussels 2 U-12s played a strong Wallace 2 team on June 18 and were edged 4-3. Tyler Campbell scored all three Brussels goals. Brussels led 2-0 for a time, but was eventually overtaken by a very good passing.squad. They tried valiantly to tie but couldn't get past the Wallace netminder. Coach Murray Armstrong said his team played well, but the con­ centration wasn't there this time.to steal the win from this strong oppo­ nent. Graduation Carrie Lynn Ansley graduated June 7 from Canadore College In North Bay as a Certified Dental Assistant with Academic Honours. She Is currently employed In London. Congrats & Best Wishes from Dad, Mom, Kevin, Mike & Dave. With two tremendous plays at first base in the bottom of the sec­ ond, by Bridge, Brussels held the opponent to one run. In their strongest outing of the year, the team continued to get on base, bringing three more home in the third. Lichty, Lindsay, Becker, Wheeler and Pipe hit the bags while RBIs went to Wheeler, Pipe and Becker. Gowanstown got off to a good comeback start in the third when the first batter smashed a homerun, but Brussels was able to slow their attempt, keeping them to three runs. Bridge again made a nice try, just barely missing a pop-up at first base. After the very good game Wednesday, Thursday was a down­ er for the team. With Fordwich in town, the opponent struck early and often, blasting two homers, two doubles and four singles in the first, for a tally of nine. seven across the plate, but the attempt was too late. Hullett led 15- 10 before topping off the scoring with eight in their last at bat. Tif Reinhart earned five strike­ outs on the mound. Jody Godfrey and Leanne Jamieson also shared the pitching duties. Belgrave Squirts lose to Wingham The Belgrave Squirt Girls came up against a tough competitor when they played Wingham, June 18. Wingham showed no mercy trouncing their hosts 21-8. While the visitors captured seven runs in each of three innings, Bel­ grave managed two in the first, fivj in the second and one in the third. He Is now employed at Hensall District Co-op In Hensail. Congratulations from Dad, Mom & Steve| Brussels hitting was weak, with only Bridge reaching base. The onslaught continued through the second and third with Fordwich putting 16 more on the board, including four homeruns. Brussels made a comeback effort in the final at-bat with a string of singles bringing in five runners. Earning hits were Bridge, Keffer, Quesenberry, Becker (RBI), Pipe (RBI), Subject, Sholdice (two RBI), with Lichty adding an RBI off a bunt. The final score was 25-6. U-8s play to win Good goaltending and accurate shots put Brussels I U-8 soccer team in the victory circle when they took on Newton, June 17. Jordan Campbell and Lacey McIntosh took turns between the posts, holding the opponent to one goal. Brussels' four goals were scored by Jodi McIntosh, Christopher Jutzi and two by Chris Corbett.
