Blyth Tykes crush Colborne
Blyth Tykes overpowered their
hosting Colborne opponents to a
30-13 finish on June 17 in Ben-
miller.
In the first inning Blyth was off
to a good start with six runs, high
lighted by a Justin Ritchie triple.
Erin Moore and Anthony Peters
came up with some key defensive
plays for the outs.
A Britt Peters homerun was the
big news in the second. Colton
Durie had a good inning, offensive
ly and defensively, crushing a dou
ble, then with a quick pick-up and
throw to Matt Wilson on first, elim
inating a runner.
The third inning was a Blyth hit
parade, but Colborne answered
with several of their own. Britt
Peters made a great play, nabbing a
runner at third for an out.
It was two-times the fun as Katie
Stryker, Nick Dale, Durie and Wil
son all hit doubles in the fourth
inning. In the bottom half, with a
mighty lead, Blyth's Wilson tagged
the runner going to second to end
the game.
On June 19, Blyth showed Bay-
field they were there to play as they
trounced their hosts 28-15.
In their first inning, Blyth
notched five runs, then Bayfield
challenged in a big way with two
home runs.
In the second Blyth added seven
more runs, while Bayfield added
another homer. Defensively Ashlee
Cook, made a great play to get a
runner out on first, then nabbed a
throw from Anthony Peters for a
second out. Cook also nailed the
third out with another great play at
first.
An Anthony Peters homerun set
the tone for a solid third inning
from Blyth, which was also high
lighted by a Kendall Whitfield
triple. Bayfield, in their at bat,
responded with a single and dou
bles before the final out.
A Matt Wilson triple cashed in
some more runs for Blyth at the top
of the first. Then with Bayfield at
the plate, Cook stopped a player
trying for second, while Adam
DeBoer nailed a play at first for
another out.

The game was in Brussels June 17.

Two wins and a loss capped off a
busy week for the Belgrave Pee
Wee Boys recently.
On June 16, Belmore came to
town, only to have their hosts send
them home on the losing side of a
9-6 contest.
Scoring for the home squad were
Curtis Knight, Matt Bromley, Matt
Walker, Kent Readman, Chad
Cook, Myron Hussey, Craig Marks,
Jason Fear and Kent McPherson.
The following night, Belgrave
breezed into Auburn and blew
away the competition by a score of
12-2. Auburn's runs were scored in
the first and third.
Belgrave didn't get started until
the second, but look the lead at that
point with two, scored by Readman
and Knight. Marks widened the
lead in the third, then Readman and
Knight came through again in the
fifth.
Big sixth and seventh innings put
the game way out of the Auburn
team's reach. Crossing the plate for
Belgrave were Bromley, Walker,
McPherson, Readman, Knight,
Cook and Hussey.
It was a different story on June
22, when Ethel came to town and
left with a 14-9 victory.
It was anyone's game for a time
as the teams traded runs for several
innings. After a one-run Ethel fust
Blyth Mites
lose 11-6
The Blyth Mites came out on the
short side of an 11-6 game in
Holmesville, June 10.
Josh Albrectas and Danny Cullen
split the pitching duties for Blyth,
while Kyle McNeil slammed a
homerun in the first.
Holmesville's defense proved to
be the undoing of Blyth, with both
teams hitting well. Coaches were
pleased with the players' effort on a
warm evening.
inning, Knight came across to tie it.
Each team tagged on three more in
the second. Scoring for the home
squad were Walker, Cook and
Devin Moffat.
At the end of the fifth, both
teams were tied at five, with
Hussey getting the Belgrave point.
Then the wheels blew off as the
Ethel offense rallied for four, while
the defense shut Belgrave down.
Ethel came up with four more in
the fifth, but Belgrave had a little
steam of their own left with Knight,
Bromley and Marks coming home.
A one-run top and a one-run bot
tom, with Travis Campbell coming
home for Belgrave finished the
scoring.
The Brussels II - U10 soccer

On June 17, the Brussels II -
UlOs hosted the Newton II squad.
Newton struck early in the game
with a well-placed shot from a
scramble in front of the net. Neither
team had another shot on net for
goal by Greg Bowers after Some quite some time, as both teams
excellent passing by several
Brussels players.
Howick evened the score, but
Mitch Blake and Greg Bowers,
with his second, each scored to
give Brussels a two-goal
advantage.
Howick again put on the pressure
and netted their second, but strong
goaltending by Brussels "keepers"
Eric Van Veen and Nathan Murray

were evenly matched, with much of
the play in this hard-fought contest
taking place at centrefield.
Brussels began to put on the
pressure, led by the strong play of
Mark Lefor at centre fullback and
hard work by halfback Brett Hunt.
However, Brussels was unable to
penetrate a strong Newton defence.
Newton capitalized on a
momentary defensive lapse by
Brussels, putting a second goal on
the scoreboard and that is how the
game ended, 2 - 0 in favour of
Newton.
