Blyth council briefs Talks continue The result of restructuring meet­ ings between the clerks of Grey, Morris, Turnberry, East Wawanosh, Howick and Hullett Twps., Wingham, Brussels and Blyth, was a compilation of facts and figures on the cost of running each municipality. The report was pulled together so elected officials could use the information as a guide during dis­ cussions on restructuring, Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart told council at the June 2 session. ♦♦♦ Reeve Mason Bailey and Coun­ cillor Doug Scrimgeour will attend a restructuring meeting for North Huron municipalities, June 25, in East Wawanosh council chambers. Reeve Bailey and Councillors Gerald Kerr and Scrimgeour will also attended a June 18 meeting for a presentation on restructuring for the Central Huron municipalities. *** Councillor Rob Lawrie and Stewart will attend a workshop, July 3, at Central Huron Secondary School, to discuss the draft of the official county plan. Quotes for insurance have been requested by council, from Cowan Insurance Co. and Jardine OME Ltd. Presentations will be heard July 7. In response to a request from a resident, Stewart made inquires to the Ministry of Transportation regarding the installation of school crossing signs. Stewart was informed no signs would be installed across the highway unless a crosswalk and crossing guards were used. Council agreed they did not wish to employ crossing guards at this time. »♦* Regarding the request for removal of a trailer near John Street, council advised Stewart to contact the village solicitor for a legal opinion on having the trailer removed once the time allotted in a registered letter to the occupant had expired. »»» Bills and accounts in the amount of $188,700.83, were approved for payment. Stewart was asked by the Blyth Business Association to sit on a committee looking into putting Blyth on the internet. Other com­ mittee members are Brock Vodden, Donna Taylor and Karen Stewart. Council had no objection to Stewart's participation. Due to statutory holidays during the summer, several council meet­ ing dates were changed. Instead of the regular first Mon­ day and third Tuesday, the follow­ ing dates have been set: June 24, July 7, July 21, Aug. 5, Aug. 19 and Sept. 2. ♦♦♦ Council requested more informa­ tion regarding a proposal to have Blyth and District Community Centre obtain a permanent liquor license. The village would have to acquire the license because it owns the facility. *** Having received several com­ plaints about water on the soccer field, Stewart said the field was the responsibility of the Blyth Lions Club. VILLAGE OF BLYTH 2ND INSTALLMENT OF TAXES DUE The second installment of taxes for the Village of Blyth is due on Thursday, June 26, 1997. Payment may be made at the Blyth Branch of the CIBC or at the Municipal Office. Interest at 1 1/4% per month or any part thereof shall be charged after the due date. Please note that people who have acquired properties and have not received a tax bill should contact the Municipal Office.
