WI breaks for summer 28 attend Lodge On Wednesday, June 11 the Majestic Women's Institute held its last meeting until September. Twenty-six members were present. Peggy Keffer, vice-president, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. Alice Brothers played A Melody of Love on the organ. The Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect were sung and repeated by all members. Secretary Kathy Bridge read the minutes and the treasurer's report was given by Jean Bell. Kathy Bridge read the correspondence and business arising from these was dealt with at this time. The roll call was answered by all, "Something the younger generation taught me." New business was dealt with for several months of the summer and Brussels PS news Athletes win at track meet By Amber Park-Shaw and Jean McDonald Brussels Public School presented its annual spring concert "Clowns", June 12, at 7:30 p.m. Some of the lead roles included Megan Teeft as Bentley, Brooklyn Wheeler as The Big Wheel and Buck Duclos as Ralph. The Grade 6, 7 and 8 band also performed. Il was a great evening and everyone enjoyed the Clowns. On Tuesday, June 3, the track and field events were held at Howick. Winners include Mite Girls, Claire Mastnak, first in ball throw and third in 100 and 400m- race; Lauren Spink, first in 50m and third in 200m-races; Mite Boys, Chris Corbett, first in high jump, 200m-race and second in 400m-race; Adam Corbett, first in 50m, 100m and third in ball throw; Chase Chapman, first in triple jump; Tyke girls, Mary Ann Aitcheson, second in 800m and third in 400m-races; Candice McLellan, first in triple jump and third in 200m-race; Tyke Boys, Brent Wheeler, first in ball throw; Drew Thomas, first in 400m and third in 4X100; Garrett Backhaus, third, 4X100; Matthew White, third, 4X100; Tyler Jutzi, third, 4X100; Atom Girls, Jodi Sellers, first, 200m; Atom Boys, Evan Horse, third, high jump and third, 4X100; Morgan Bishop, third, early fall. Several motions were passed to set standards for the coming year. The meeting was then handed over to Yvonne Knight, the con­ venor for this month. She had a very light, yet informative, talk. Her motto was "Minds are like parachutes, they function better when open." Be willing to try things in new or different ways, she said. She also read an excerpt from Most of What I learned, I learned in Kindergarten. Children can teach a great deal if only one keeps an open mind. Doris McCall, gave some very important points regarding the labelling on cans. There will be another work­ shop of this same topic in the fall. Happy Birthday was sung. The Institute Grace and O Canada followed. Cake, ice cream and lemonade were served to all. Majestic euchre parties will begin in September, the first Tuesday of every month, at the cost of $3 with lunch provided. The next Institute meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Brussels Library. We would like to thank all the participants of the 1600m. The secretary’s and treasurer's report were given. Lodge extends its sympathy to Muriel Whitfield on the death of her sister and to Bill Kellington on the death of his two brothers. They are: Noble Grand, Lorraine Edwards; Vice Grand, Elva Brown; Secretary, Edna Pearson; Treasurer, Joan Bernard; Financial Secretary, Lois McCall. The next Lodge meeting is on Tuesday, June 24.
