This program was specifically meant for the girls, but a second presenter gave an alternative presentation for the boys. These programs took place in the two gyms with the females in one and the males in the other, with the help of the peer mentors and peer mediators. The females discussed self-esteem, body image, and nutrition. The males discussed anger management and conflict resolutions. The females' presentation was more "hands on" work, making crafts and food. STEVE CARTER By Lisa Kwan Steve Carter was awarded the Margaret Bennett Junior Citizenship Award by police chief Jim Dore. Steve had helped save a neighbour, Gord Walters. The award was presented on May 26 at a school assembly at F. E. Madill. On Dec. 6, Carter was heading home for lunch from shop class and noticed a crowd. He went to look what the situation was and was called on to assist Dr. Antoni ados. Walters had a heart attack and Steve helped out by performing CPR. Carter said that he fell good about assisting in "saving" him. Walters is a friend of the Carter family and Carter said their relationship has become closer since the incident. Carter said "CPR should be a necessity for everyone, since you don't know when you will need it". There is a plaque located in the school that reminds students and staff what Carter has done. Steve was also awarded his own personal trophy and cash. Carter is presently in Grade 10 attending F. E. Madill.
