By Janice Becker Citizen staff He saw a need in the community and believed he could fill it. That was the motivation for Bruce McFadden when he decided to expand his appliance and repair shop to the main Street of Blyth. Having owned McFadden's May tag Home Appliance Centre in Wingham for approximately three years, McFadden said he began to see customers drifting to other cen tres such as Goderich or Stratford for their appliance needs, instead of going towards Wingham. "I saw a business opportunity to meet a need and decided it was worth investigating," he said of his move into Blyth. "If I sell more product, I can buy it at a better price." "I was drawn to the Blyth (loca tion) because of Scrimgeour's, which is a drawing card, and the location of the post office next door," he said. Aside from owning McFadden's in recent years, he has been involved in the appliance repair business since 1971, including many years with Modem Appli ance. Unlike the Wingham outlet which consists largely of Maytag products, the Blyth store will be a multi-brand establishment, offering appliances from makers such as Danby, Simplicity, Magic Chef, Genn-Air, Eureka and, of course, Maytag. The products will include refrigerators, freezers, stoves (both electric and gas models), washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, vacuums and air conditioners. There will be seconds available at reduced costs. Though McFadden owns the store, it will be manager Stan Fetter who will greet customers Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. The store will be closed Wednesdays. McFadden's Appliance can be reached by calling 523-9496 or the toll free number 1-800-294-9793.
