Those who attended were: Connie Shiell, Christopher, Andrea and Lindsay; Linda Hess, Andrew and Judith; Kim Higgins, Laura and Ashley; Lila Procter and Jessica and Alice Yuill. Their topic was "Safety". They will meet again Wednes­ day, June 11 and Wednesday, June 18 to complete their 1996-1997 meetings. Long service Lila McClinchey, who has been a school bus driver for East Wawanosh students for the past 30 years was guest of honour at a special assembly last Friday, honouring her for her years of service. On June 2nd you made a choice to return me to Ottawa to serve you in Canada’s parliament. At this time I would like to extend my warmest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their hard work and dedication to re-elect me as your representative. I look forward to continuing our mandate and working closely with you as we meet the next century with much anticipation and success.Students at EWPS in Grades 7 and 8 will be trying out for the school two-pitch team and will compete at the regional tournament at Tumberry PS on Tuesday, June 17. Mrs. Dodds, Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Hessels and Mrs. Webster are busy preparing for the school's Author Day to be held on Friday, June 20. In the morning the students will be sharing their books and in the afternoon they will be attending workshops presented by an author/ illustrator. A dance is being sponsored by the School Advisor Council for JK/SK to Grade 4 students after school on Friday, June 20 from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. The cost of admission will be $1. Juice and chips will be sold for 50 cents each. The Grade 8 students will be visiting F. E. Madill Secondary School to see the classrooms and meet their teachers for next year. The Grade 8 graduation banquet will be held at the Belgrave Community Centre, on Monday, June 23. Pictures will be taken at 6:45 and the meal will follow at 7 p.m. The meal will be served by the Belgrave United Church ladies. Play Day will be held on Monday, June 23 in the afternoon. John Kerr, Judy Mathers and Monique Gallahar will be organizing it. Grade 8 students will help run the events and Grade 7 students will be team leaders. Sarah Hoy, daughter of Victoria (Belanger) and Brian Hoy celebrated her first birthday on Saturday, May 31. Family and friends attended a special celebration to mark the occasion. Sarah would like to say "thanks" for the cards and birthday presents. On Tuesday, June 17, at 8:15 p.m. the Women's Institute's guest speaker, Marian Raynard will give a slide presentation on her experiences as a domestic supervisor at an interdenomina­ tional retreat centre on the Isle of Iona, off the west coast of Scotland. She will, also, include some slides WMS members visit 36 The WMS held its meeting on Monday, June 2 at the home of Hazel Dalrymple. Alice Nicholson opened the meeting with the purpose. O Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love was sung. Hazel read scripture Psalm 24. Alice led in prayer. Margaret Siertsema gave the secretary's report and Ivy Cloakey the treasurer's report. There will be no meeting in July. Ivy Cloakey read a poem. June roll call was answered by a hymn verse. Alice read "Touching Shoulders". Thirty-six sick and shut-in visits were recorded. Bob and Jane Grasby visited last weekend with Donna and Gary Leitch in London. Ted Wilson of Langley, BC visited last Sunday with his sister, I Betty Irwin. Mildred Yuill having been a patient at Wingham Hospital has returned home after spending three weeks recuperating at their daughter's Linda Lichtenberger. Friends and neighbours wish Mildred a speedy recovery. Jean Pattison and Freda .Scott have returned home after being a patients in Stratford Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital respectively. Club gives to Wheels Away The regular meeting of the Belgrave Community Club was held on Friday, June 6 with 16 members in attendance. The usual reports were given and adopted. It was decided to donate $100 to the Wheels Away organization. A nominating committee of Gordon Bosman, Laura Johnston and Lloyd Appleby was named to bring in a slate of officers and committees for the September meeting. Anniversaries in June were Lois and Stuart Chamney, Bob and Jane Grasby, Mary and Jim Hunter, Ross and Ada Taylor. Birthdays in June were Louise Bosman and Ross Taylor.
