About 230 grandparents and seniors descended upon the school between 10 and 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16. They socialized in the school gym and visited classrooms before lunch. At noon they were treated to a soup and bun lunch prepared by the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and served by the students in Grades 7 and 8. The primary classes went to the Family Literacy Festival on Wednesday, May 28. Here, they sang songs, made crafts and listened to stories. Some kids even got autographs from the authors. On May 22 the Grade 7/8 class went to Niagara Falls for the class trip. We started out at the Levi Strauss factory, which everyone found rather boring, except for Mrs. Perrie. After, we went to Fort George, Brock's Monument, the Butterfly Conservatory and ended our trip at Clifton Hill where we had free time. Of course, the most fun was there. We would like to thank Max Demaray for taking us down, and Mrs. Perrie, Mr. Kemp After lunch the student body presented a variety program for their guests. According to principal Clarence Bos, "The day was fantastic. These grandparents and seniors have an uncanny way of teaching the rest of us how to mix having fun with a wonderful sense of reverence for life and for God." CDCS's in-school track and field day was held on Tuesday, May 20. The day turned out to be rather cool, but dry. According to Nick Geleynse, the Grade 8 teacher and organizer of and Mrs. Exel who accompanied us on our trip. On May 15, Mrs. Whyte's Grade 6/7 class went to the Science Centre in Toronto. We asked two students how they liked this trip. "It was fun," 6th grader, Jonathan McDougall replied. "I got to put my hand on a static ball. It made my hair stand up." Jodi Sellers agreed. "We kept running through this cave and screaming. And at the Human Body Centre you could open a door and a girl would cough." Mrs. Perrie and Mr. Hooftman were presented with gift certifi cates, given to them by the School Advisory Council. It was given in regard to their hard work at BPS. We will all miss them, as they are retiring this year. On June 12, Brussels Public School is putting on the musical, Clowns.
