School has family fun
BUSY! BUSY! BUSY!
By Kate Kuepfer and
Derek Passmore
On Thursday, May 29 we had the
Family Fun Fair at Brussels Public
School. The School Advisory
Council organized this event. They
had such events as face painting,
bake sales, games, crafts, a silent
auction, toy sale and food. Funds
are being used for school trips,
band instruments and other school
events. By the end of the night we
raised over $1,400.
Friday afternoon all of the school
went into the gym for track and
field awards. First place winners
were Claire Mastnak, Chris Corbett,
Candice McLellan, Drew Thomas,
Jodi Sellers, Evan Horst, Nicole
Lowe and Ryan Mawhinney.
Second place winners were Lauren
Spink, Adam Corbett, Mary Ann
Aitchison, Matthew White, Jenna
Krotz, Morgan Bishop, Amy
Douma and Nolan Krotz.
Congratulations to those who won
and participated.

Grandparents visit CDCS
The long weekend in May was
once again the setting for the
annual visit by grandparents and
seniors to Clinton and District
Christian School (CDCS).
About 230 grandparents and
seniors descended upon the school
between 10 and 11:30 a.m. on
Friday, May 16. They socialized in
the school gym and visited
classrooms before lunch.
At noon they were treated to a
soup and bun lunch prepared by the
school's Parent Teacher
Association (PTA) and served by
the students in Grades 7 and 8.
Tuesday, June 3 to compete in the
North Huron Track and Field Day.
After we had the winners
announced we were split into
groups to spend the rest of the
afternoon skipping for the Skip-a-
thon. This event was organized by
Amber Park-Shaw, Chrissy Mason,
Leslie Pepper and Richelle
Jorritsma. Funds raised from this
event will go towards the Heart and
Stroke Foundation.
The primary classes went to the
Family Literacy Festival on
Wednesday, May 28. Here, they
sang songs, made crafts and
listened to stories. Some kids even
got autographs from the authors.
On May 22 the Grade 7/8 class
went to Niagara Falls for the class
trip. We started out at the Levi
Strauss factory, which everyone
found rather boring, except for
Mrs. Perrie. After, we went to Fort
George, Brock's Monument, the
Butterfly Conservatory and ended
our trip at Clifton Hill where we
had free time. Of course, the most
fun was there. We would like to
thank Max Demaray for taking us
down, and Mrs. Perrie, Mr. Kemp
After lunch the student body
presented a variety program for
their guests.
According to principal Clarence
Bos, "The day was fantastic. These
grandparents and seniors have an
uncanny way of teaching the rest of
us how to mix having fun with a
wonderful sense of reverence for
life and for God."
CDCS's in-school track and field
day was held on Tuesday, May 20.
The day turned out to be rather
cool, but dry.
According to Nick Geleynse, the
Grade 8 teacher and organizer of
and Mrs. Exel who accompanied us
on our trip.
On May 15, Mrs. Whyte's Grade
6/7 class went to the Science
Centre in Toronto. We asked two
students how they liked this trip. "It
was fun," 6th grader, Jonathan
McDougall replied. "I got to put
my hand on a static ball. It made
my hair stand up." Jodi Sellers
agreed. "We kept running through
this cave and screaming. And at the
Human Body Centre you could
open a door and a girl would
cough."
Mrs. Perrie and Mr. Hooftman
were presented with gift certifi
cates, given to them by the School
Advisory Council. It was given in
regard to their hard work at BPS.
We will all miss them, as they are
retiring this year.
On June 12, Brussels Public
School is putting on the musical,
Clowns. The Grade 6, 7 and 8 band
will be playing at the beginning of
this event and then, Grade 3-8 will
put on the play. This is a silver
dollar event and everyone is
welcome. It will start at 7 p.m.
Hope to see you there.
the day, "The students, teachers and
volunteers had a good time
together.
One of the highlights of the day
came near the end of the meet
when Angela Rylaarsdam, a Grade
7 student knocked several
centimetres off the school record
for the 11 and 12-year-old girls in
high jumping. About half the
student body was present and
cheering for her when she cleared
1.28 metres."
At noon, the PT A provided the
students, staff and volunteers with a

Its was fun and games at Brussels Public School last
Thursday night for the Student Advisory Council's Fun
