The exhibit will be mounted June 17 and runs until July 12. Two more exhibits will round out the season: Incandescence: Con temporary Hot Glass from July 15 to Aug. 9, and Gerald Pedros from Aug. 12 to Sept. 13. The glass exhibit features the best of Ontario's "Hot glass" artists - a light show for the '90s! Gerald Pedros is a St. Thomas social activist artist whose still-life and landscape abstractions reflect the influence of Mexico where he has studied and shown. Reaching out of their frames to talk to the viewer, this artist's assertive mixed media pieces make a lingering impression. The Bainton Gallery, located in the Box Office link between Blyth Memorial Community Hall and the Blyth Festival Administration Office, is open performance days Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and non-performance days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Sundays). It is also open during theatre performance intermissions. Admission is free. It was written by Chislett and first premiered at the Festival in 1981. Company cast for ‘Quiet’ The company has been cast and rehearsals are set to begin for the Blyth Festival classic Quiet in the Land which opens the Festival's 23rd season June 20. Quiet in the Land was written by award-winning playwright Anne Chislett who takes over duties from Janet Amos as the Festival's artistic director in November. The play won the Chalmers Award in 1982 and the Governor General's Award for Drama in 1983 after premiering at the Festival in 1981 and, 16 years later, it is still being produced and studied by students in schools and universities. Quiet in the Land is a finely- drawn portrait of an old order Amish community held together by its strict moral beliefs, German ancestry and pacifism. The tensions and devastation of World War I threaten to split the community when Christy, a stern elder, is challenged by his rebellious son Yock. Infused with warmth and wonderful characters, this play explores the great human dilemma of how to understand the meaning of love in a world tom by hatred. Two people who participated in the original production of Quiet will return to Blyth for the new production: John Ferguson, the original designer, returns to design set and costumes again, and well- known Canadian actor, David Fox, (Road to Avonlea) will reprise his role as Christy. Another familiar face in the cast belongs to Jerry Franken who plays Zepp. This is Jerry's 10th season at Blyth and audiences may remember him most recently from Jake's Place, Ballad for a Rum Runner's Daughter and He Won't Come in from the Barn. Others in the cast include David Archambault who was raised in nearby Goderich and is now work- Buck & Doe for Lori VanBeek & Mark Coultes Saturday, June 7 at the B.M.G.
