The news from
Afternoon UCW talks of
North Korean famine
The Afternoon Unit of the UCW
met on May 12 at the home of
Mary Hunter. . Kay Roberts
welcomed everyone and thanked
the hostess for her hospitality. Mrs.
Roberts recited the poem
"Daffodils" and read a poem about
Mother's Day.
Lois Chamney led the worship
service assisted by Olive Bolt and
Audrey Fenton.
Following the reading of the
minutes of the April meeting, thank
yous were read from Margaret Fear
and Edith Vincent.
Mrs. Roberts invited the unit to
her home for the June meeting.
Ada Taylor was in charge of
Bible Study, continuing with
Mathew's Gospel. Mrs. Roberts
presented the mission study based
on the famine in North Korea. She
said Canadians are not as aware of
the problem because the media has
not presented it like they do the
famine in Ethiopia. There is a very
urgent need for tons of food for
1997. Mrs. Roberts closed the
meeting with prayer and asked the
blessing for the delicious lunch
which Mary served following the
meeting.
16 gather for WI meeting
Sixteen women gathered at the
WI Hall, Belgrave at 8:15 on
Tuesday, May 20 for a regular WI
meeting.
With Mary Coultes as pianist, the
evening began with the Opening
Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and the
singing of O Canada.
President Audrey Fenton
welcomed everyone and presided
over the business meeting.
Secretary-Treasurer Dianna
Robinson gave her reports and
announced the district annual
meeting to be held in Londesboro
on Monday, May 26.
It was decided to change the
regular meeting time for the
Belgrave branch from 8:15 p.m. to
7:30 p.m., beginning in the fall.
Isabel Campbell was the program

The Evening Unit of the UCW
met at the home of Laura Johnston
with 17 members present.
Barbara Anderson opened the
meeting with a poem "Sunshine
and Music". The theme of the
worship service was "House
cleaning Time" presented by Laura
Johnston and Ruth Johnston with
hymns, The Glory of the Spring
How Sweet and Blest Be The Tie
that Binds being sung.
The scripture was taken from
Psalm 96 and a meditation was
read. The worship service closed
with prayer.
During the business the roll call
was answered by a memory of
mother. Next month's roll call will
be an article for the children's
comer for the "Country Fayre and
Canadian Tire money for Camp
Menesetung.
Norma Moore presented the
program on "Jogging Your
Memory" and a questionnaire on
"Fact and Fiction about Memory"
was answered.
The meeting closed with the
benediction and lunch was served
by Lillian Campbell and Lorna
Cook.

guest speaker was Jean Young, the
director of "Town and Country
Support Services", formerly known
as Town and Country Home
makers. She gave a presentation
outlining the types of services
available through the agency. Two
short videos helped to illustrate the
topic as well. Pamphlets were
distributed to all present.
She was thanked by Isabel
Campbell. Two appropriate
readings ended the program, "A
Homemaker's Prayer" and "Hugs".
After the singing of God Save
The Queen and the WI Grace the
lunch committee of Norman Moore
and Dianna Robinson served
refreshments to end the evening.

Holiday opportunity to visit
Rev. Peter and Nancy Tucker
spent a few days with Mabel
Wheeler before going on to the
United Church Conference in
Woodstock.
Congratulations to Mike and
Heather Logan on the birth of their
son.
Congratulations is also extended
to Corey and Cindy McKee on the
birth of their son.
Marjorie Stopforth and
Alexandria of Oakville visited last
Sunday with her mother Beth
Procter. Sandra Mayberry of
Londesboro and Kimberly
Mayberry also visited at the same
home. Kimberly returned home
after spending two years in
California where she graduated
from Moore Park College having
taken the exotic animal training
course.
On Saturday, Marilyn Mayberry
and her friend of Kitchener visited

in play on Wednesday, May 14 in
the Women's Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Iona
MacLean; second high lady,
Audrey Edgar; lone hands, Kay
McCormick; low lady, Jean
Henderson; high man, Richard
Moore; second high man, Harvey
Edgar, lone hands, Lloyd Appleby;
low man, George Michie.
There were eight tables of euchre
in play at the Women's Institute
Hall on Wednesday, May 21.

Chamney; lone hands, Jane Grasby;
low lady, Agnes Bieman; high

in play on Friday, May 23 in the
community centre.

regular time on Wednesday, May
14. Those who attended were Kim

Irwin, Thomas and Sean Glover of
Churchill were guests at Loma's
mother's Betty Irwin. Ashley Irwin
of Ashfield Twp. also stayed at her
grandmother's on Victoria weekend
as well as last weekend.
The Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts
visited with their daughter, Alison
and her family in Binbrook on the
weekend. While there Rev. Roberts
was the guest minister for the
Binbrook United Church
anniversary service. He is also the
guest minister for the anniversary
service at Ashfield United Church

program offered at no cost providing support and practical information
by trained facilitators for patients, families and friends through informal
discussion groups. You are invited to join us to talk or just listen. No
registration is needed and you are welcome to come as often as you

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP which may be highly beneficial
to individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Confidentiality will be upheld in order to ensure a safe place where peo
ple may share their fears, loneliness and problems. It is sponsored by
Huron Hospice Volunteer Service and will be held JUNE 4th & JUNE
18th (bi-monthly meetings will be held on the first and third Wednesday
