Quilting bee at Schneider Haus THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 14,1997 PAGE 23. Alcohol ban at Falls for holiday weekend A traditional quilting bee brings many people together around the quilting frames, and while the fingers are flying over the tiny stitches, there is much laughter and visiting, and delicious smells coming from the kitchen. The sights and sounds of such a quilting bee will be recreated at the Joseph Schneider Haus Museum on Victoria Day Weekend, May 17, 18 and 19. Mennonite quilters from the St. Jacobs area and from Erb Street Church will be demonstrating their quilting expertise throughout the weekend. A selection of quilts going to the Ontario Mennonite Relief Sale and Quilt Auction in New Hamburg on May 31 will be exhibited in the classroom. She started off by reading a humorous poem called 'Being a Member'. She told the ladies that she has raised six children and still has no answers but left with lots of questions. It was also learned that Phyllis had been a teacher for a few weeks to Margery Huether, 51 years ago. Then she began her talk about Mary, the mother of Jesus. The members were asked to imagine themselves as Mary and what they thought it may have been like for her. Gloria thanked her guest and she and Heidi took over the business part of the meeting. Setsuko won First Prize at the 1996 Ontario Juried Quilt Show in Kitchener with the quilt she entitled Tokyo Kaleidoscopes of 1910s.
