Brussels PS news Kindergartens learn bus safety By Sarah Little and Jen Cowan This week at BPS the new kindergartens have been learning about Bus Safety. Constable Marshall came to the school to show the children a video about being safe while on the bus. He also showed them how to get on and off of the bus safely. On Tuesday, May 6 students from Brussels went to East Hullett PS speaker goes far Wawanosh Public School to have a fun filled day of bordenball. Even though it was cold and windy we had a good day. The boys went went were: Andrew Garland, Josh Nichol, Mike Walker, Stephen Todd, Jared Cardiff, Rob McKer- cher, Mike Bernard, Matthew Elliott, Chris Coulter, Tim Harrison, Lance McLellan, Kyle Stephenson, and Troy Backhaus. The girls that went were: Amy Douma, Nicole Lowe, Nicole Bernard, Katie Clark, Jen Cowan, Jen McDonald, Kate Kuepfer, Sarah Little, Trish Teeft, Shannon White, Eileen Exel, and Megan Bragg. The other schools were: Wingham Public, Grey Central, Tumberry Central, East Wawanosh and Howick Public. The teams were made up of students from each school. The students in the 6/7 class made Mother's Day baskets, of a pop bottle, material, cotton, lace and ribbon. They could put whatever they wanted in them, but most people wanted to put chocolates in. On Friday, May 9 the Grade 9 graduation pictures were finally taken. All students were photo graphed in gowns and ribbons in the school's colours. Girls had their picture taken with a bouquet of roses. Throughout the past few weeks, students have been practicing for track and field. The meet will be on May 16. The high jump mat has been out for practice. The shotput balls have been out as well. On Monday the kindergartens, Grades Is and 2/3s went to the Wingham Hospital. They learned what it's like to work in a hospital. Tuesday was pizza lunch at the school. On Wednesday there will be a skipping assembly held for the skip-a-thon. Thursday, Mrs. Whyte's 6/7 class will be going to the science centre. By Janice Becker Citizen staff Apparently, a little humour and personal experience can take one a long way. Travelling to Elliott Lake for the provincial speaking championships was the end result of Hullett Cen tral Public School's Charlotte Worsell's talk on "alphabetical dis crimination". Worsell, a Grade 4 student and daughter of Shelley and Bob Worsell of RR1, Auburn, took her speech-giving talents north, May 3, to compete against three other Grade 4-6 students in the provincial finals. She finished as a runner-up. Worsell says she was inspired to write the speech after suffering at the end of the list for years. "I hated being last," she says. "I was the last to have my order taken for hotdogs and pizza and last to get my report card." However, there are some advan tages, she says. "I was the last to go to the dental hygienist". And as the last to be videotaped for the Legion's identification program, Worsell says she knew exactly what to say when it was her turn. "I would like to be first some times," she says. On her trek to the provincial finals, Worsell said her speech six times: in class, at the school level, in Blyth, Clinton, Chesley and Eto bicoke before going to Elliott Lake. She advanced as far as the competi tion could take her.
