Happy Gang discusses
graduation awards
The April meeting of the Happy
Gang Seniors was held at the hall
on Wednesday, April 30. Grace
was sung and members enjoyed a
delicious pot luck meal.
They opened the meeting with O
Canada. The minutes of the
February and March meetings were
read. Betty Hulley gave a report on
the Zone Rally at Zurich. The
dance is Friday, May 23.
Graduation awards were
discussed. The bus trip will be June
20.
In charge of the cake for May is
Josephine MacGregor and Hazel
Watkins. Ice cream is Reg and
Ruth.
Seniors games are at Lucan June
16 and 17.
June meeting will be on June 25.
There were five tables of euchre.
Winners were: high lady, Betty
Hulley; ladies' lone hands,
Josephine MacGregor; ladies' low,
Betty Archambault; men's high,
Margaret Good; men's lone hands,
Margaret Taylor; men's low, Reg.
Lawson.
The April meeting of the UCW
was held on Monday, April 28 at
1:30 p.m.
The March meeting was read by
Brenda Radford. This was
approved as read. Reta gave the
treasurer's report.
Correspondence was read from
Auburn UCW inviting Londesboro
UCW to visit Tuesday, May 20.
Thank yous were read from Lome
and Addie Hunking, Tom and
Marjorie Duizer and the Canadian
Bible Society.
A sympathy card was sent to

Greeters at Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, May 4 were
Marie Bromley and Darlene
Vincent. Ushers were John and
Jane Hoggart. Guest speaker was
Rev. Carmen Holborough of
Central United Church, Stratford.
Choir practice for the ladies' trio
is Sunday, May 11 at 10:30 p.m.

Guest speaker was Polly Powell
of Clinton. She spoke on
Nicaragua. She has been there
twice.
Brenda read "The Station".
The worship service was
conducted by Mary Peel and Betty
Archambault. Hymn 46 was sung.
Betty read a piece on spring. She
also read the scripture. Mary Peel
read a story then led in prayer.
Hymn 82 was sung.
Lunch was served by Joan
Whyte, Betty Millar and June
Fothergill.

Students place at science fair Longtime member

The annual interschool borden-
ball tournament will be held at East
Wawanosh Public School on
Tuesday, May 6. Students from
Wingham, Turnberry, Grey,
Brussels and Howick will compete. •
Several students from EWPS
Grade 7 and 8 classes participated
in the Huron County Science Fair
in Goderich. Kristyn Gerth and
Paul Walker placed in the top three
for the Grade 7 physical category.
Congratulations to all the
students who represented the
school.
As part of a special grant, the
school has received a dreamwriter
lab which will enable primary
teachers to teach keyboarding skills
to up to 35 students at one time.
Mrs. Webster and Ms Vander -
haar have been trained to use the
lab.
Portfolio night has been
scheduled for Monday, May 5 from
7-8 p.m. Parents of students in
JK/SK to Grade 3/4 are invited to
come to the school with their
children to view the work of their
children. This assessment tool has
proven very useful to staff in
evaluating each child's progress.
A special pre-school bus safety
program will take place on
Wednesday, May 28, for all new
students register at EWPS next

May with the second one to be a
dessert shoot.
It was decided to renew
membership in the USCO and
subscribe to one copy of The Voice
magazine.
A donation of $500 was given to
the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund
and $500 to the Belgrave
Community Centre Board.
Names are being accepted for the
bus trip to the Geritol Follies on
June 27. The Seniors Games are to
be held on June 16 and 17.
Members are urged to participate.
Register with Mabel Wheeler by
May 27.
The meeting adjourned to meet
again on Friday, June 6 at
1:30 p.m.

The School Advisory Council
has 300 copies of their cookbook.
They are selling for $10 each and
over half are already spoken for al
this time. The books will be
delivered home prior to Mother's
Day. Anyone who hasn't ordered
and would like to, please call the
school or send a note to Mrs.
Robinson.
The Grade 8 class will depart for
Quebec City on May 27 and return
on May 30. Grade 7 will be
travelling to Niagara Falls on May
26 and Grade 5/6 to Toronto on
May 14. These educational
excursions have been planned to
help complement their classroom
studies.
The final meeting of the School
Advisory Council will be held on
Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the
library resource centre. A
representative from a creative
playground company will be in
attendance to show the group plans
and answer questions.
In addition an election will take
place to elect the executive for
1997/98. This is an extremely
important meeting and attendance
is encouraged. Babysitting will be
provided.
The Spring operetta will feature
The Mikado by the Grade 7/8
classes and Joseph and His
Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat
by the Grade 5/6 class.
The production should last
approximately 90 minutes.
Babysitting will be available.
A plate will be passed to help
offset expenses related to scenery
and costumes.
The students have put a lot of
hard work into it with the
leadership of Mr. Bartlett, Mrs.
Webster, Mrs. Daer and Mr. Kerr.
It promises to be a wonderful
evening.
A dress rehearsal will be held at
1 p.m. on May 21 for those unable
to make the evening performance.

Mabel's Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, April
30.
Those who attended were Kim
Higgins, Laura and Ashley; Mary
Jane Hobden and Stephen; Linda
Hess, Andrew and Judith; Connie
Shiell, Christopher, Andrea and
Lindsay.
Their topic was "Behaviour".
