ACWW meets for church in Molesworth St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Molesworth hosted the Huron East District Association Country Women of the World church service, April 27. Rev. Olwyn Coghlin welcomed everyone then led the call to wor ship. Marjory Humphries of Walton delivered a thought-provoking talk on conquering obstacles. A positive attitude is needed to deal with any obstacle that blocks a person's way. in comparison to developing coun tries. These obstacles are brought into homes daily, by way of televi sion, radio and print media. Most people would like to see world peace, Humphries said, but this will take dedicated negotiations on everyone's part. The first obstacle is war, fol lowed by hunger, poverty, home lessness, disease and ignorance. It has been estimated there are 800 million hungry in the world today. Discrimination and prejudice are obstacles needing to be conquered as they put everyone in some sort of category. No one should be judged on appearance. Lastly, fear wears many faces — criticism, change and failure. Have people grounds for their fears? Can they do anything about them? Here attitude steps into the limelight and becomes a vital part. Life is an adventure not a destination. People must take up the torch to be continually learning, Humphries said. Think positive. WI members donate to "Pennies for Friendship" to help needy women in the world become better educated and learn to help them selves. There are different projects to which WI members have given funding to get these women started on a better way of life for them and their families. Marg Greig, of Howick Junior WI, emphasized this in her telling of the ACWW work. The newly formed District choir performed during the service under the guidance of Aleida Murray with Judith Ann Douglas at the piano. Refreshments were served by Molesworth WI following the ser vice. Even though Canada has obsta cles to conquer, she said, they pale Crafting a kite More than 55 children from kindergarten to Grade 6 gathered at Duff’s United Church, April 25 to participate in the Possibility Day. Pastor bids farewell Glen Brubacher gave his last sermon as interim pastor of Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Sunday, April 27. He chose Matthew 6: 25-34 ad a texts for his message. Needless worry or anxiety does not accomplish worthwhile things, he said. People who are anxious are hard on people. They should only be hard on issues, not people. Turtles withdraw into their shells when anxious. Skunks choose a different response. Withdrawing all the time, or lashing out all the time is not good. Jesus says, "Don't worry. God is the source of our well-being." Anxious people can't work constructively with differences, Brubacher said. "Planning but not becoming anxious is difficult. Jesus wants to wash areas of worry from our lives." Tobi Farrell was pianist for the service and Lloyd Koch led the congregational singing. Elwin Garland led the worship service. Ashley Keffer sang for the offertory with Darlene Hemingway accompanying her at the piano. Ashley Cove-Button was dedicated during a child dedication ceremony led by Pastor Brubacher. Following Sunday School, a farewell fellowship meal honouring Glenn and his wife Anna-Mary was held in the gymnasium. Michelle Lichty will be working April 28 - May 3 in Detroit, Mich, with children ages eight to 12, as part of the Children's Institute Program. The children will be learning about Godly characteristics such as obedience, attentiveness, etc. The children are taught crafts and songs and the importance of living Godly lives.
