THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30,1997 Brussels Livestock report Strong market boosts veal prices $2 to $3 The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending April 25 were: fed cattle, 692; cows, 272; veal calves, 278; lambs and goats, 322; and stockers, 2,537. A strong market saw the fed steers and heifers selling $2 higher. The cows sold steady to last week. On Thursday the veal traded $2 to $3 higher. The lambs sold on a sharply lower trade. All classes of stockers sold on a good active steady trade. There were 366 steers on offer selling from $92 to $98 to the high of $104. Three steers consigned by Bill and Blair Priddle, Badjeros, averaging 1,278 lbs. sold for an average of $100.56 with sales to $104. Twenty-five steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,414 lbs. sold for an average of $95.10 with sales to $102. Twelve steers consigned by John Giousher, Wingham, averag­ ing 1,383 lbs. sold for an average of $94.69 with sales to $99.75. Eleven steers consigned by Don McAllister, Chesley, averaging 1,332 lbs. sold for an average of $95.45 with sales to $99.25. Eight steers consigned by Robt. Mainland, Arthur, averaging 1,406 lbs. sold for an average of $96.09 with sales to $99. Fifteen steers consigned by Fred Smith, Brussels, averaging 1,390 lbs. sold for an average of $93.47 with sales to $97.25. Three steers consigned by Paul Murray, Ripley, averaging 1,306 lbs. sold for an average of $92.84 with sales to $96.75. Nine steers consigned by Terry McCarthy, Dublin, averaging 1,345 lbs. sold for an average of $93.98 with sales to $96.25. Twelve steers consigned by Lloyd Wheeler, Bluevale, averaging 1,413 lbs. sold for an average of $87.78 with sales to $95.50. There were 301 heifers on offer selling from $92 to $98 to the high of $105. Fourteen heifers con­ signed by Mux Lea Farms, Woodstock, averaging 1,119 lbs. sold for an average of $97.41 with sales to $105. Ten heifers con­ signed by Bev Hamilton, Hensail, averaging 1,198 lbs. sold for an average of $94.98 with sales to $100. One heifer consigned by Ron Gordon, Bly th, weighing 1,215 lbs. sold for $99. Eleven heifers consigned by Russ Faber, Kippen, averaging 1,316 lbs. sold for an average of $87.44 with sales to $97.75. Eighteen heifers consigned by Schultz Bros., Blyth, averaging 1,148 lbs. sold for an average of $92.66 with sales to $96. Nine heifers consigned by Amsey Bearinger, Mount Forest, averaging 1,126 lbs. sold for an average of $90.01 with sales to $95.50. Five heifers consigned by Theo Melady Farms Ltd., Dublin, averaging 1,151 lbs. sold for an average of $90.75 with sales to $94.50. There were 271 cows on offer selling from $45 to $64 to the high of $75.50. Two cows consigned by Bos Acres Ltd., Auburn, averaging 1,370 lbs. sold for an average of $61.70 with sales to $75.50. Ten cows consigned by Doug Powell, Dobbinton, averaging 1,147 lbs. sold for an average of $59.61 with sales to $72. Two cows consigned by John Swinkles, Seaforth, averaging 1,625 lbs. sold for an average of $61.38 with sales to $70. There were 21 bulls on offer selling from $58 to $64 to the high of $76.50. One Blue bull consigned by Doug Hinsperger, Mildmay, weighing 2,005 lbs. sold for $76.50. One Black bull consigned by Ivan Pickett, Clinton, weighing 1,810 lbs. sold for $74.50. There were veal on offer selling $2 to $3 higher. Beef sold $80 to $119; Holstein, $75 to $90; and Plain Holstein, $55 to $70. A Limousin veal consigned by John Verburg, Londesboro, weighing 635 lbs. sold for $119. A black and white veal consigned by Martin Metske, RR 5, Lucknow, weighing 660 lbs. sold for $111.50. A veal consigned by Chris Palmer, RR 5, Wingham, weighing 670 lbs. sold for $110. Lambs, under 50 lbs. sold $167.50 to $200; 50 - 80 lbs., $160 to $200; 80 - 95 lbs., $140 to $172.50; 95 - 109 lbs., $70 to $120. Sheep sold $32.50 to $97.50. Goats sold $20 to $130. Steers, under 400 lbs., sold $83 ‘to $127; 400 - 499 lbs., $80 to $124.50; 500 - 599 lbs., $97 to $116.50; 600 - 699 lbs., $89 to $113.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $84 to $116; 800 - 899 lbs., $82.50 to $106; and 900 lbs. and over, $83.50 to $104.50. Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., sold $72 to $115.50; 400 - 499 lbs., $81.50 to $112; 500 - 599 lbs., $83 to $107; 600 - 699 lbs., $83.50 to $101; 700 - 799 lbs., $81 to $102.75; 800 - 899 lbs., $78.50 to $89.50; and 900 lbs. and over, $68 to $95.
