THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30,1997 The news from elgrave Compiled by Linda Campbell Phone 357-2188 Baptism service at Knox United Community plans to ‘Walk for Life’ On the fifth Sunday of Easter at Knox United Church welcoming worshippers to the Sunday, April 27 baptism service were Noreen Gnay and Doreen Marks. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden welcomed everyone before song time. Silent meditation followed. The call to worship was read responsively and the Prayer of Approach was said in unison. The hymn of praise was Joyful Joyful which the congregation sang before the Prayer of Affirmation repeated in unison. The mixed choir sang My Task accompanied by Anne Spivey at the piano. The New Testament scripture lessons were taken from I John 4: 7-21. The children gathered in the front pew for story time before the singing of Part of the Family. The Sacrament of Baptism was taken from the song books. Ashley Jean, daughter of Bruce and Kim Higgins was baptized. Psalm 22: 25-31 was the chosen scripture reading. The Gospel lesson from John 15: 1-8 was followed by the singing of Open My Eyes. The sermon was based on 12 tables in play at shoot There were 12 tables of shoot in play at the Women's Institute Hall on Wednesday, April 23. Winners were: high lady, Viola Adams; second high lady, Audrey Edgar; lone hands, Marj Coultes; low lady, Jane Grasby; high man, Lillian Appleby; second high man, Jim Coultes; lone hands, Norma Strong; low man, Milt Boyd. There will be euchre again on Wednesday, April 30. Everyone is welcome. The seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, April 23 were: Al Meyers, 134, 155, 126; Ken Sax­ ton, 133, 111, 111; Raymond Neil, 103, 150, 196; Lome Campbell, 148, 151, 146; Bob Carbert, 166; Jean Walker, 144, 116; Judy Gaunt, 149, 121; Evelyn Galbraith, 63, 131; Doris Remington, 171, 149; Eleanor Neil, 60, 107; Kay McCormick, 110, 130. "Love". Ken Procter and Ross Higgins were the offertory stewards. The offertory song was Lord's Prayer. The closing hymn Higher Ground, Sending Forth and The Commissioning and Three- Fold Amen brought the worship service to a close. On Saturday, May 3 the Youth Group is going to Camp Menese- tung to open their adopted cabin. Any adults, who would be willing to assist and to drive, contact Mary Jane. They will be leaving the church at 8:30 a.m. The day will last as long as they need to be at the cabin (lunch will be provided) and young people will be delivered home in the afternoon. "A Walk for Health" is being held in Belgrave on Saturday, May 3. Pledge sheets are available at the Belgrave Variety. Everyone is welcome. The Belgrave Women's Institute is sponsoring a bus trip to Stoney Creek on Tuesday, May 13. Anyone interested in going should contact Isabel Campbell at 357- 1938 or Diana Robinson at 357- 1452. On Tuesday, May 6 at 7:45 p.m. there is a community miscellaneous shower for Dianne Nethery at the Belgrave Women's Institute Hall. Everyone is welcome. Mabel's Moms met at their usual time at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday, April 23. Attending were: Kim Higgins, Laura and Ashley; Linda Hess, Andrew and Judith; Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen; Connie Shiell, Christo­ pher, Andrea and Lindsay. "Going Back to Work" was their topic to discuss. Ruth Johnston of Belgrave accompanied by Chester and Marilyn McDonald of Goderich attended the funeral on Thursday, April 24 in Welland of Ruth's brother-in-law, James W. Johnston of Simcoe, who passed away on April 21. Sympathy is extended to the families, his wife Edna and Dr. Gregory Johnston, Mrs. Neil Thompson of North Bay and Judy and family of Blenheim. Amos Wong from Malaysia is visiting with Linda and Bruce Campbell and family. ANNOUNCEMENT ALAN R. MILL and ROSS E.
