My owner caused
my break down
"It all started when my owner
began neglecting me, Doc,"
explained Rusty to his automotive
technician. "My hoses were rotting,
my air filter was filthy, and he
hadn't replaced by spark plugs in
years. I tried to let him know I felt
neglected -1 hinted by having rough
starts, knocking engine noises,
increased fuel consumption, etc.,
but he just ignored all of the signs."
"Then came last night; we were
driving through the rain, and then I
began coughing and sputtering
until finally I couldn't go any
further. I broke down, right there in
the middle of nowhere!"
"My owner took a look under my
hood, but didn't know what to do to
fix me. Out of frustration he kicked
me - the tires that is," continued
Rusty. "You've gotta help me, Doc.
In spite of what happened last night
I still like my owner, but he has got
to learn how important regular
preventative maintenance is -
you're an automotive expert; he'll
listen you. Tell him I want to be
depend-able, but that I need his
help - he's got to give me regular
checkups."
If you don't want your Rusty to
tell a similar tale, don't wait for
symptoms to worsen before look

if necessary. The order of the wires
is important. Each cylinder has to
fire in the right order, or you could
cause severe engine damage. If you
are in any doubt, check the firing
order in your owner's manual or
call your local service centre for
advice.

checkups and maintenance.
How do you know when your
card needs attention?
You don't have to be an
automotive service technician to
know when it's time to see one.
Beware of the following symptoms:
• Engine - hard to start, uses gas
excessively, sluggish, smokes, or
noisy.
• Transmission - slips on shifting,
noisy, or shifts erratically.
• Battery - won't hold a charge.
• Exhaust - hisses, rumble or roars.
• Steering and Suspension -
wanders, pulls, shimmies, shakes
or bounces.
• Brakes - noisy, stop unevenly,
brake pedal mushy or fading.
• Lights - out of focus, burned out,
or inoperative turn signals.
• Body - rusted, paint deterioration.
If any of the above apply to your
'Rusty', or if it has been a while
since you had regular maintenance
on your vehicle, Car Care Council
recommends getting it checked
today. You might save yourself a
great deal of frustration and
expense later.

Canadian NGV Alliance
paves the way
Led by the Canadian Natural Gas
Vehicle Alliance - a unique collab
oration of Canadian gas companies,
along with the co-operation from
the NGV industry and North
America's "big three" automakers -
NGV is fast becoming recognized
as the preferred low-emission
alternative for motor vehicles.
"We are responding to increased
demand for natural gas as an
automotive fuel by expanding the
supporting network of public and
private NGV refueling stations in
Canada," explains Michael McNeil,
President of the Canadian NGV
Alliance. Currently, there are 127
public and more than 52 private
natural gas refueling stations across
Canada.
"In addition, more than 1,600
vehicle refuelling appliances are
providing convenient, at home or at
work fill-ups for Canada's growing
NGV fleet," adds McNeil.

Reduce air pollution
Components of air pollution
caused by vehicle emissions raise
the risk of respiratory diseases such
as bronchitis and asthma. They also
increase the risk of developing
certain types of cancer. Harmful
greenhouse gas can even affect the
air we breathe inside our homes
and workplaces.
Natural gas burns cleaner than
gasoline and other alternative fuels.
