Christian students look forward to special week Students, faculty and parents of Clinton and District Christian School (CDCS) are looking forward to Christian Education Week from April 20 - 26. This week normally comes with a number of very special activities. The object of Christina Education Week is to focus the attention of parents, teachers, students and the community on the Christian school within the community. This year, organizers hope that on Sunday, April 20, the local churches will focus on the importance of passing on to children of Christian parents the stories of the Christian faith. Clarence Bos, principal of CDCS, said that within each of the churches around Clinton and district there is always an opportunity to pick up some literature about Christian Day Schools. He mentioned in particular the "Christian Home and School Magazine", which is mailed to each of these churches. CDCS, he said, is on the internet as well. He invites internet surfers to check out the school's web site at http://www.odyssey.on.ca/~c des/school/school.htm or find some more about Christian schools in general by looking up CSI on WEBCRAWLER. There will be some special activities at the school as well. There will be an open house on Tuesday, April 22. This begins with an assembly in the gym at 9:10 a.m. Then parents and/or interested persons are invited to visit classrooms. Bos hopes many people in the community will take advantage of this day to check out the school. CDCS had its science fair during the week starting March 31. Projects were brought to school and set up on Monday, April 1. They were judged on Tuesday by volunteers Dick Roorda, Nancy Ridder, Bernice Hoftyzer and Bill Jongejan. One of the duties of the judges was to choose three of the best projects to be sent to compete in the Huron County Public School Science Fair and four projects to compete at the Redeemer College Christian School Science Fair in Ancaster. The students enjoyed examining each other's projects from 12:45 until 1:30 after which parents had an opportunity to check out the science fair projects. Bos said that the staff is again very happy with the calibre of the projects. Nick Gelenynse, the Grade 8 teacher, attended the Redeemer College Science Fair on Friday, April 11. On Friday evening, April 4, the Christian schools in the Woodstock District held their Fine Arts Festival. About 30 students, mostly from CDCS junior choir, were carpooled by their parents to sing at the Festival of Praise in the Royal View Pentecostal Church in London. Each year, CDCS honours grandparents and senior friends. This special day includes a complimentary meal, a special program and an opportunity to visit grandchildren in their classes. Friday, April 28, is a PD Day at CDCS. Teachers will spent the day at a variety of workshops in Sarnia. There will be no school on Friday. On Monday, April 7, CDCS welcomed a new family to the school. Tim and Cheryl Mulder, Brittany, Grade 1, and Luke, Grade 3, have joined the school community. They come from the Drayton/Moorefield area. CDCS is in the process of filling its staff positions for next year. It is expected that all positions will be filled early this week. On Monday, April 8, students will enjoy hearing a group called the Visionaries. This group of singing missionaries along with Dr. Chris Marantika will speak to students about their mission work throughout the world. They will sing for the students in the afternoon and will return in the evening in the school gym at 7:30 p.m. There is no entry fee. All are welcome to attend.
