THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16.1997 Lodge visits begin in April Remarkable achievement Majestic Wl members honoured one of their own, April 9, when Eleanor Hemingway received recognition for 50 consecutive years as a Wl member. She was presented with her pin by Cindy VanNes, a Cranbrook 4-H leader. Hemingway has actually been a Wl member for more than 50 years though they were not consecutive. Wl honours woman for 50 years service April is a very busy month for District Deputy President Sister Rene Richmond. Visits will be made to Exeter Lodge on April 2, Clinton Lodge on April 7, and Brussels on April 8. The District Meeting will be held in Brussels on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. when the lodges in the district will give the year's reports of their lodges. The Rebekah Assembly will be held in London in May. Two candidates will pin the lodge at that time. A bus will be taken to London. A letter was read from the Kidney Foundation and an invitation came from Ilderton on April 28 to attend the annual Brother's night. Ruth Lodge in Stratford is celebrating the occasion 4-Hers take photos By Ashley Keffer Six members attended the second Brussels 4-H meeting. We went to the dam and took pictures from different views and different spots. We gave Doug Mitchell a surprise birthday party. He had a very neat expression on his face. Jane Runstedler made Doug a chocolate cake; it was delicious. We placed pictures by one, two, three and so on. Next week we are going to Doug and Janet Mitchell's to take pictures of their elk and animals. of their 100th birthday. An invitation was read from Paisley Lodge regarding their April 28 annual Brother's night. At May Queen Lodge, London, Brother's night is April 16. There is to be a birthday party in Teeswater on May 2 and Perth Star, Listowel on April 10. The District meeting was held on Wednesday, April 9 with a good attendance of Past Grands. Sister Richmond was in charge of this meeting and read her year's report. Sister Bernice Ford of Exeter will be the District Deputy President for 1997-98. A short program followed the meeting and a delicious dinner was served by several sisters. The annual chicken supper was held at the arena with a large attendance, sponsored by Western Star Lodge. Western Star Lodge would like to thank all the people who gave donations for the draws at our annual chicken supper. Brussels Motors, McDonald Home Hardware, JR's Gas Bar & Take Out, Radford Auto, Brussels Variety, Brussels IGA, Oldfield Pro Hardware, McCutcheon Motors, McGavin's of Walton, Dauphin's Feed, John Brown, Ralph Pearson, Bill Young, Blake's Apple Orchard. Most of all the ones who attended it. It was a great success. The annual meeting of Majestic Women's Institute was held at the Brussels Library basement on Wednesday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m. President Ruth Sauve opened the meeting with a reading "Healthy and Wise". The Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect followed. Eleanor Hemingway was presented with her 50-year pin for 50 continuous years of service. Her daughters Ruth Axtmann and Marion Godkin were also present for the presentation. Twenty-three members and 12 visitors then enjoyed a delicious pot luck lunch. Ruth read "Today's Aim" and the "Objectives" from the Wl Handbook. Secretary Kathy Bridge read the minutes from the March meeting. Jean Bell gave the treasurer's report. Visitors were introduced. Gifts were given to 4-H leaders, Cindy Van Nes and Kathy Bridge, for all their time spent with the youth in the community. Kathy read the correspondence which included a Certificate of Recognition for the 100th anniversary from Helen Johns. The Wl Centennial Song was sung. Reports were given from the various offices. A break was taken with Lyle and Alice Brothers showing a nice variety of slides of Cullen Gardens. Roll call was answered by revealing one's Sunshine Sister. Following this the minutes from the annual meeting were read. A report was given by the nominations committee followed by the installation of officers by the board director for Subdivision II, Winnifred Mann. Winnifred then gave a very thoughtful talk on "Treasure the Past - Work for the Future". People need to work together with a positive attitude. They need vision as well as action. Vision without action is only a dream and action without vision only passes time. But together they can make change. Winnifred was thanked and presented with a fruit basket by newly appointed president, Edna McLellan. New business was covered. A dessert euchre will be held May 20 in the afternoon and an evening euchre will be held June 3. Delegates were selected for the district annual in May.
